Schadenfreude
Report in today's The Times (print edition - can't find it online) that Spurs are asking Pochettino to take 10% cut on his £8.5 million a year wage for not being their coach. His contract runs to 2023 - or until he start a new job. They hired their new coach on £12 million.
I wish them all the best with that discussion.

Re: Schadenfreude
It was all over SSN yesterday about it. Looks as though they placed him on gardening leave rather than make a settlement on his contract. If I were him, I'd tell them where to go.

12m to Moanrinio...and (unbelievably) Levy was given 3.5m for ‘delivering’ the replacement stadium - I wonder what the postage was on that!

Re: Schadenfreude
Aye I saw this story. Given what Levy has just paid himself, I think Poch will be perfectly entitled to tell them where to go.

Re: Schadenfreude
I think he's more than entitled to tell them where to go given that they didn't come to a settlement with him and chose to continue paying him, knowing that those payments would stop as soon as he got another job.

Yes, it seems I'm a day late in hearing this news item - and probably explains why I couldn't find it in Saturday's Times online.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 10:21 amIt was all over SSN yesterday about it. I must give credit to Chester Perry for "breaking" the story on our mb - it's one of many gems he has posted on the Magic Money Tree thread.
A club being hoist by their own petard in failing to agree a settlement when they first Pochettino (and his coaching team).
Another of the gems on MMT is news of White Hart Lane naming rights deal. If I was Poch I'd be asking for a piece of their naming rights deal - maybe at the rate of £12 million a season for the period Nov-2019 until Jun-2021 - and be free to start at a new club whenever he wants.
Got to admit, I just wanted to start a thread with the subject "Schadenfreude."

He uses a disguise and goes to the food bank as it is, perhaps someone could walk around their bank vault a hundred times for him ?

I'm sure I read a week or two ago that Amazon were being touted as potential stadium sponsors.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 10:39 amYes, it seems I'm a day late in hearing this news item - and probably explains why I couldn't find it in Saturday's Times online.

As for Schadenfreude - seems we've had a rush of Germans joining the board this morning.

Re: Schadenfreude
As much as the money is obscene in football and cetainly doesnt sit well with many people in the current climate hopefully Pochetino will tell Levy where to go. The attempts at cost cutting and trying to sponge off the government whilst paying handsome payments to others is appalling in my opinion.

Re: Schadenfreude
Levy and Bezos look very similar, are they really the same person?
Re: Schadenfreude
If I were Poch I wouldn't even bother replying to Spurs.

Re: Schadenfreude
It has been in the public domain for a little while, as you know sometimes it is just how to mention it - I ended up asking if the prospect of it becoming more generally known influenced the move to reverse the furlough decision and suggested the ground might be called the "Tax Avoidance Stadium"ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 10:44 amI'm sure I read a week or two ago that Amazon were being touted as potential stadium sponsors.
I was even wondering whether Amazon sponsorship would actually just be tax consultancy rather than actual cash, given the residential location of the owner and Amazon's own reticence to pay anything approaching what it's competitors do in the domestic markets they operate, but kept that to myself until now. You do wonder at the projected cost of £25m pa when Amazon get 20 live games a season (with no alternative broadcaster for those rounds of games, for £30m currently.
On the issue of naming rights though you do wonder when a new stadium loses the lustre of being the original naming right's opportunity. Personally feel Spurs have to do it this year or it will become a de-valued property in that sense.

If I was Poch I'd take the 10% Levy wants him to give up and donate it to a charity supporting the current Covid crisis somewhere across the world.
Sure the UK press would love to get their teeth stuck into that story

Re: Schadenfreude
Be amusing if Poch took his £850k and offered to pay it to Tottinghams matchday staff, who have been furloughed.
