Top 20 TV game shows of all time
The Bullseye talk on the other thread got my thinking about classic game shows so here goes my top 20,it was a top 10 but i then remembered more.
1) Who Wants to be a Millionaire (purely for the drama, and i don't mean the Ingrams)
2) The Weakest Link (Anne Robinson made this show, some of the questions were stinkers though)
3) Eggheads(simple but watchable format, the head to heads are what makes the show)
4) Blockbusters (watched this in my youth,Bob Holness was a natural host, and the gold run,who can forget the gold run)
5) Bullseye (you can't beat a bit of bully)
6) Goldenballs (this show was evil, but that's what made it gripping viewing)
7) Masstermind (had a version of this as one of my Xmas presents when i was younger, never got around to playing it though)
8) Family Fortunes(purely for the daft answers)
9) University Challenge (even though i can't get most of the answers)
10)Going For Gold (loved how inclusive this show was)
11)Are you smarter than a 10 year old (this had some classic clangers, and of course Noel)
12)Supermarket Sweep (the original with Dale,i haven't watched the new one)
13)Play your Cards Right (Brucie's innuendo was timeless & the catchphrases live on even after his passing)
14)Pointless(some of the categories are impossible mind you)
15)Fifteen to One (the incomparable William G Stewart and some really tough questions)
16)The Crystal Maze(some of the zones are bleeding hard)
17)The Cube (not a fan of Schofield, but the format's fantastic)
18)Blankety Blank(Les Dawson was the best presenter for this show, but it featured some greats)
19)Tipping Point(Steve Mulhern & the machine)
20)Catchphrase(Roy Walker & Mr Chips)
Any that you'd change or leave out,and any that you'd add.

Countdown has to be in. Hasn't it had more episodes than any other game show worldwide?

There have been plenty of excellent games under the banner of the National Lottery on Saturday nights. Sadly they have all disappeared now for more celebrity shite.

Should have stopped with a top 16, I think as there are some dregs after that.
I'd have sale of the century up there as it had lots of questions. Likewise the chaser. Both had likeable hosts.
Who wants to be a millionaire I find pretty tiresome. It either means that you are sitting around because the person doesn't know what the capital of Suriname is, or, worse, you end up waiting around because its a question about eastenders or some celeb nonsense that you don't give a #### what the answer is anyway.
I also quite liked ask the family. The questions were quite hard (so it would never get on nowadays without being seriously dumbed down) but there was always one family that had a couple of people you couldn't bear to win.
Oh, and the krypton factor.

Fifteen to One (both the W G Stewart* and Sandi Toksvig* versions) very difficult and you really do have only 5 seconds to get the correct answer.
*I was on both and although W G Stewart came across as a 'thoroughly nice chap' I watched him reduce one of the girl set runners to tears in an outburst of 4 letter expletives over something and nothing during filming..... people said he could be an absolute tw*t and I witnessed it 1st hand.
Sandi Toksvig on the other hand is a gem very very funny

A tad surprised that The Chase doesn't get a mention. Been trying to get on it for ages. But watch out for 2 Clarets appearing on Pointless in the next month or so!!
