The evil weed ...

Post by Clarets4me » Wed Apr 22, 2020 4:13 pm

Researchers in France are commencing trials with Convid19 patients, wearing Nicotine patches ...

Apparently, initial statistics obtained from those admitted to French hospitals, show that regular smokers are significantly underrepresented in the numbers. Of 11,000 people admitted to Paris hospitals, only 8.5% were smokers, as against 25% of the population at large. The current working theory is that nicotine may play a part in preventing the Covid19 virus reaching cells.

Before everyone starts buying 20 B&H, the doctors have stressed and re-stressed that the other bad side effects of smoking far outweigh any small benefitin this one case, and it's not proven anyway ..... 8-)

If the choice is a bad thing that might kill you in 20 years or a bad thing that might kill you next week, I might incline towards the former. Especially if I was 80 years old!

Of course, it could be because coronavirus disproportinately affects people who have reached old age, and many of the smokers didn't get there.

I go through about 8 pieces of nicotine gum every day so hopefully I’ll be immune now

4MG lozenges. Just as addictive as the cigarettes they replaced.

My Nanna used to say her doctor in the 1940s tried to get her to smoke as it was full of health benefits.

She declined.

Same with the gum I use, not really tackling the cause of the problem but less harmful than cigarettes (I hope).

Why would people waste their money on something that diminishes their health, and possibly life?
