Not only that he never even set foot in England.
Re: Happy St George's Day Everyone!
Why do Portugal, Ethiopia and Lithuania too ? For us he represents Bravoury and Honour amongst other things and this has been the case since 1350. Good to see people celebrating being English.

Maybe that explains why they celebrate St Patrick’s day so much.

Re: Happy St George's Day Everyone!
Because back in the middle ages he was seen as the personification of the ideals of Christian chivalry.
St George had been known in England since the 7th-8th centuries but his cult gained new impetus in England during the Crusades.
At the time we weren't the only people to adopt him as their patron saint and I dont think the origins really matters much over 500 years on.
Im not nationalistic and it washes over my head but if people want to celebrate their country and national identity then fair enough and as far as Im concerned I hope they enjoy celebrating their day

Not sure I understand people who have no connection to Ireland whatsoever celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Always found it strange.

Klaus Märtens was a doctor in the German army during World War II.
He started the business in Seeshaupt, Germany, using discarded rubber from Luftwaffe airfields, by 1952 they opened another factory in Munich. In 1959 the company had grown large enough that Märtens looked at marketing the footwear internationally. Almost immediately, British shoe manufacturer R. Griggs Group Ltd. bought patent rights to manufacture the shoes in the United Kingdom.
The first Dr. Martens boots in the United Kingdom came out on 1 April 1960
Was once Britsh made yes and once a very britsh icon in the 60s and 70s but invented by a German in Germany.

I did know that to be honest, but they are seen as and were first used as a fashion item in England, skinheads, punks, Bros and Morrissey and Tony Benn all made the association with England. And they were made in England to boot. Sorry. I'll get me coat.

8 or 10 holes Steve?
I had a pair of red 10 holers in the 80s and they lasted for donkeys.
Must admit I preferred the look of Monkey boots and a mate of mine had a pair of them Major Domos which he got some right grief for.

He probably did back in the day, but he's a bit thin on top these days. Still a fit lad for his age and looks after himself. Last time I saw Stubbsy to talk to, was in the Tim Bobbin I never usually go in . 3 days later it shut. Kiss o' death! And that was before lockdown!

We are going to "Clap for the carers" followed by a Glass or two of some good old English Ale ...
Then raising our glasses waving the flag and crying out
