The Weather
I've just been out for a stroll, but didn't realise how warm it was, so had my jeans and Burnley hoodie on.
It felt like summer! It must be the hottest day of the year so far.

Where do you live? There's no wind in West Yorkshire and it's cracking the flags.

On a technicality, if you're cooking the kids in the paddling pool, that's not a barbecue - that's braising or boiling. Barbecue is roasting, isn't it?Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 1:51 pm3rd BBQ of the week today, kids in the paddling pool.

What no rain since February ???? LOL
Re: The Weather
Just fired the BBQ up and opened my first Purple Panther porter no.5. Beautiful.
Re: The Weather
Just as an aside, it's a beautiful blue sky day with little humidity here in Houston, March/April typically the best weather for me and now the heat is really ramping up. The A/C is on more and more and will be back to huge electricity bills, weather will soon turn to being to hot & humid to walk and even to lie out, well for me anyway. Summer not typically something I look forward to, annual pilgrimage to UK in the summer looking less and less likely at the moment, flights should have been booked by now but trying to stay hopeful that we may manage to get there in summer.

Re: The Weather
I would not exactly call it a lock down, more of a close down. Walked on average 6 miles a day around the hills
Re: The Weather
my mother made (heated up?) me my first black pudding aged around 13 and went out for a while, I ate it and it tasted ok but texture a little odd at times, very soon the vomiting started and then got worse. She was horrified when she got home but things had started calming down, it seems like I was ill for days and days but probably a day.
We talked about it later when I could, turned out I was not supposed to eat the skin off it but she never told me that!
From then on when going in the market hall I had to give the black pudding stall a wide birth as the smell of it made start to gag.
I had a good friend worked on the stall later, she always told people she was shorthand tripeist because the sold the tripe and elder also

I’ve said runners are a danger. Heavy breathing as they run must make them a bloody hazard. I turn my head away as they pass.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 7:07 pmIt wasn't too bad today. I had a jogger run past, who must have thought the 2 metre rule doesn't apply if you're running.

Every time they pound each foot on the ground, they emit sprays of sweat and all manner of bodily fluids. They are a menace. They should be confined to running in certain areas where other people aren’t put at risk.

KateR, you can definitely eat the skin! It’s cooked during manufacture and is impossible to prepare it wrong, as long as you keep it in fridge. Are you absolutely sure it was the black pudding? Very unlucky if it was. You’re now missing one of the best things in life: poached eggs, black pudding and brown sauce. I haven’t currently got access to the last 2 and now have a major craving...

If you're that concerned a jogger's foot is going to squirt corona virus on you every time you take a stroll, I'd be stopping inside for the foreseeable future.

It’s not from the feet, it’s from the sweat and excessive breathing. They’re in very close proximity as they come pounding by.

I’m a runner and have to say, some of the reactions have been quite unbelievable. In general, I’ve been running out in the road to give those on the footpaths more than 2m space. Sometimes it’s not necessary on very wide footpaths, or not possible when traffic is very heavy.
One woman nearly jumped over a wall as I approached about 50 yards away (hadn’t run in to road at this point, since I was so far away). Another, who’d taken it upon himself to walk out in to the road to avoid me (walking on the white line on the brow of a hill!!!!), covered his whole face with his hands when I turned and said “thank you”.
If you’re THAT worried about catching this virus, stay in.

It would be best if they just kept to the white line in the middle of the road, that way keeping everyone happy. There aren’t too many cars around anyway at moment and those that are on the road can simply drive either side of them.

Re: The Weather
I’ve looked into it and it’s official. On account of the sweat, all manner of bodily fluids and the heavy breathing, they shouldn’t be within TEN metres of anyone else. I came down with quite a heavy cold about three or four weeks ago, which, as you can imagine, I found very worrying, and I hadn’t been anywhere apart from attempting to take daily exercise walking along the seafront at Westbourne and having to dodge an array of sweaty runners, joggers and cyclists thundering towards me with a strong easterly wind behind them and coming towards me. I hadn’t been anywhere else. I had to have caught it from them. As I’be said before, there are an absolute menace.

Re: The Weather
This is slightly tongue in cheek, Big Red, but I did, in fact, come down with this rather heavy nasal orientated cold that laid me low for about two to three weeks and the only place that I could have got it was from taking these walks that happened to pass excessive exercise freaks. I’m much better now though, thank you.
Re: The Weather
definitely black pudding, still the same if I smell it I need to get away quickly, I do have haggis occasionally but that smells and tastes fine, not sure how different they are.Stanbill05 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 5:12 amKateR, you can definitely eat the skin! Re: The Weather
just sounds absolutely horrendous though lol
I have been to several Boisdale events in London and all of the places have haggis on the menu for starter and I had every time, very nice I must admit, plus have done numerous Burns nights around the world. Of course they are piped in at those that I have attended, black tie and kilts abound, which I have to say looks very good, well to me anyway.
