when the sun shines we all tend to feel a little happier, but right now is the usual how can I get out and enjoy it to the full, those with gardens are lucky during this time, balcony's work well to but the unfortunate ones can only dream of when we can all enjoy it a little better. Add some music and a bottle of wine, perhaps a little picnic and life feels good again for a short while, enjoy.

Up to yet got through Supertramp, Van Morrison, Can, Alex Harvey Band, Leonard Cohen, Frank Zappa, Captain Beefhearf, Man, Thin Lizzy, Yes, Focus, The Cure, Gentle Giant, Barclay James Harvest and one of my favourites, Kevin Coyne. Still got loads to go through!

I was absolutely was Kate. Complete with hair down to my ass and much use of ‘chemical stimulants’. Happy days.KateR wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 4:34 pmwhen the sun shines we all tend to feel a little happier, but right now is the usual how can I get out and enjoy it to the full, those with gardens are lucky during this time, balcony's work well to but the unfortunate ones can only dream of when we can all enjoy it a little better. away in the archives.
I particularly noticed Man, I had quite a few of their albums, but lost all but one through loaning them
out and never getting them back. The only one that I have left is :-
"Be good to yourself at least once a day" which has a large fold out map of Wales.
Anyway, here's an appearance on the Whistle test in 1975, aptly titled,
"Many are called but few get up"

Re: Perfect Day (under the circumstances)
By the way, BJH were brilliant.
Re: Perfect Day (under the circumstances)
My husband hair was way past his shoulders when we got married, both sets of parents not impressed and the kids find it an endless source of amusement looking back at old pictures, he was not a hippy though, yet I always liked looking at hippy's and music around Woodstock and San Francisco. Watched a great program yesterday about when Johnny Cash was invited to play at the White House by Nixon, learned a few things form that
I was very much in to soul music in my early teens, did the Twisted Wheel club when 15 plus my first visits to pubs and visited quite a few great clubs but never made it to Wigan. I managed to dance on stage with a couple of groups and got to see some fantastic acts, but maybe playing with other peoples chemistry sets also had a bearing on my memories . Hubby bought me a Sam Cooke best of album/vinyl for Christmas and spent last Sunday doing a throw back to my early mid teens, even got out my 45's from those days and did some dancing, seems I was embarrassing our youngest even though just the three of us home lol.
Live shows and being the rebel tailed off as college and work kicked in, got into other music, Led Zep a favorite but liked weird even then or on the fringes, Yes, Curved Ice, Uriah Heap , etc. Never bought any Beatles or Rolling Stones music but like to listen to some occasionally, not an Oasis or Artic Monkeys fan.
These days our eldest has been introducing me to new music for the past 10 - 15 years and have loved every minute of it, being able to discuss these things with him, priceless. I have him to thank for Counting Crows, Killers, and a few more, yesterday was Alexa and I for a couple of hours while I worked doing Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, I have no idea how it happens but the volume just seemed to keep edging up all by itself. Life could be much worse and is for so many!!
Re: Perfect Day (under the circumstances)
Reminds of a number of years ago I had been working in Bradford repairing a lock and was driving back... on Manningham Lane I pulled up at the lights "Still the same" was on the Radio on the Van Stereo. I turned the volume up and was singing my head off (Not something others want to listen too of course) I saw on my right in the next lane someone doing exactly the same, they glanced over and we started laughing.... The lights had changed and the vehicles behind were honking their horns.
We smiled waved and drove our seperate ways....
Yes I know exactly what you mean about Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band... the volume just gas to go up

yes indeed, snuck in with an older crowd, a few who were known regulars, but Tim if you want to doubt it that's ok to, definitely not normal, but when I went it was late night entry only and no alcohol whatsoever, what did amaze me was that it was (if I'm remembering things correctly) right across from the police station, and while there was no alcohol, there were a lot of drugs going round.

Used to love Creedence Boss and they were the first band I saw live - Free Trade Hall around ‘70 and the first album I ever owned (Green River). Saw Skynyrd there as well on there first British tour. They never did know how to end Freebird.

We had a lovely afternoon in the sunshine in the back garden. Listening to BC Camplight, Mr Ben and the Bens, Hotel Lux amongst others whilst having a few Alhambra Reserva beers and a BBQ, as well as catching Dwight giving more pain to the south coast plastics.

Good to know there's another Caravan fan on here. I was introduced to them with For Girls Who Grow Plump, 1972 - I had friends from Canterbury. Seen them a few times over the years. Last album I got was Paradise Filter, think that was 2014.houseboy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 3:53 pmSat on the garden swing at the bottom of our brilliant looking garden in goodness what heat listening to, among among other things, The Love in your Eye by the amazing Caravan. Simon and Garfunkel were great - but Paul Simon (without Garfunkel) has produced much more great stuff. I was lucky to me at Hyde Park, summer 2018, his "Homeward Bound" tour. Excellent. Wish I'd seen him at Bold Street (Accy) early 60s, but I was a little too young then.
Re: Perfect Day (under the circumstances)
knew a Colin Bar...... but through my sister who is older than me, she told me he passed away, last year I think, if that is who you mean. Always remember him as the really well dressed mod, other two I don't know. You a friend of his?

Re: Perfect Day (under the circumstances)
OMG the Twisted Wheel, now there’s a name from the past! I wasn’t a regular visitor by any stretch but it was there where R&B, Soul and Blues were first introduced to me. Since then the genres have popped into my life on regular occasions. I think my most vivid memory was seeing John Lee Hooker perform live. There’s a 24 hour jazz station in Toronto, FM 91.1, www.jazzfm91.com , they broadcast a Saturday night blues show, well worth a listen IMHO. As we know, jazz and blues are very closely related.

such a small world, Mecca, El Greco, there was a club I think in Brierfield to I went to a couple of times plus I seem to remember one in Halifax for some strange reason, similar to TW but in a kind of cave type environment and when they turned the lights on early morning after an evening of dancing the floor had a lovely bit of "water" Where was Swiss Corner, sounds familiar, there was a bar in the Kirby hotel, I got thrown out of there many times for being under age.
My mother could never understand how I was so tired on Sundays after staying with my friend for the night and why I had to sleep the afternoon, told her I had to be ready for Sunday night out lol. I would kill my children if they got up to half of what I did and they were always saying, but how did you know! I'm sure there are lot's I don't know and never what to know

Last few years was in London, found out the Pizza Express Jazz clubs (3 of them I believe and did them all) and went often to them, never disappointed and highly recommend for starting an evening or a Sunday afternoon.
Also went to the Curtain Hotel East London a couple of times for there Sunday Gospel singing brunch, southern comfort Deep South food also lol.

Saw Caravan 4 times back in the 70s. One of those rare bands who are actually BETTER live than on record. Never heard Paradise Filter. Didn’t know they were still making albums. They had that ability to either rock out or be totally dreamy.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Fri Apr 24, 2020 9:48 pmGood to know there's another Caravan fan on here. Seen 10 of those lot. Nice to see Home there. Saw them as a support to Mott the Hoople. Best support band I ever saw. Home, their second album, was immense and the Alchemist is a minor classic. Laurie Wisefield was an amazing guitarist who went in to spend many years with Wishbone Ash. Cliff Williams on base went on to spend about 40 years with AC/DC.

Agree, Home by Home is a fav of mine. Always felt that they never had the credit/popularity that they deserved.

When I saw them they performed Western Front/Lady of the Birds and it was the highlight of the night, even better than Mott. That tour saw them get rave reviews. I’d never heard of them but went out the following day and bought Home.
