Would be worth it to not have Leeds promoted!

Re: Dutch league cancelled
Just delay it as long as needed and then start the season at a suitable time afterwards. It might take two or three years to get back into sync but they’re small prices. There’s no point rushing to start 2020/21 on time when for all we know, the next autumn and winter may bring a new lockdown of its own.

Re: Dutch league cancelled
I hope you’re wrong! Most clubs in prem would absorb the loss of a large amount of tv money, with their rich benefactors.
Burnley can’t, villa also will be a lot stronger next season after 3/4 of a season practice
Re: Dutch league cancelled
Cancelling league takes all credibility out of football.
It makes no sense to get rid of an 80% completed season to start a fresh. Cancel a full season or 2 if needed.

If Liverool being 25 points clear and them not winning the league,no way will our victory at Old Trafford go down as a win

Spanish news says they hope to restart La Liga at the end of May, obviously dependant on the Corona virus trend.

Apparently we have no money!
Re: Dutch league cancelled
If this season gets written off due to safety reasons when on earth do you think we are likely to start again when there are no treatments or vaccine in sight?

Re: Dutch league cancelled
The only winners in this are the lawyers as always, this could get messy, you've got to feel for Cambuur(whoever they are) romping to promotion and it's cruelly snatched from their grasp.
Will next season even start on time, that must be in severe doubt.

Hope they can find a way to get it up and running behind closed doors soon. Safely, of course. Lockdown would be so much easier with sport to watch/look forward to.
Having Dwight to watch in the ePL has great though.

Re: Dutch league cancelled
it doesnt look too promising sadly, some reports saying we could be dealing with social distancing in some form for remainder of year. Lot's o football leagues already scrapped. Just a week away from May, and government not giving any clues as to when anything resembling normality will return.

not sure they would appease football fans as a distraction when businesses are folding every hour. seems clumsy.

Re: Dutch league cancelled
I think that it might just happen. We could do well. Long balls will result in less physical contact. The only trouble is that, without looking back into it, I can’t exactly remember the position we were in. The momentum has been lost. Without looking it up, I can’t remember who we played last.
Re: Dutch league cancelled
They can test all players and officials and they can ensure coaching staff etc stay two metres apart.
But they'll never stop the thousands of idiots who would gather in the streets outside Anfield when the title is confirmed, and for that reason alone, this shouldn't happen.
Just finish it when there's a vaccine. It's five weeks of football with two games a week, it can wait.

Re: Dutch league cancelled
A vaccine available in the numbers required is likely to be another 12-18 months.
How can clubs like ours continue to operate for that length of time without any income?

Are you aware how long it’s going to take to get a vaccine. 18 months is an optimistic assessment.Fretters wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 5:27 amThey can test all players and officials and they can ensure coaching staff etc stay two metres apart.

Honestly, I don't know. But people will die if they start it back up too soon. And it won't just be the idiots who congregate on mass, it'll be the innocent folk who serve them in the supermarkets, or their elderly relatives.

Re: Dutch league cancelled
All this about people dying is very sad but in the end life can’t come to a semi permanent grinding halt. People are struggling, businesses are folding, the world economy is dying. There will come a time, soon, when people start saying the prevention is worse than the disease. Most people will either not get it, not know they’ve had it, be ill but never go to hospital or wind up in hospital and survive. Sadly many are dying but as a percentage of the population it is minute. What we are doing right now is right, but eventually we will be forced to accept that lockdown simply cannot continue. It is not only affecting jobs and the economy but many peoples mental health. I think some people genuinely believe that this can continue until a vaccine is found, it cannot. Things have to be paid for, including the NHS, and governments cannot simply print money. Lockdown WILL have to end long before any vaccine or cure is found and we need to accept that. Measures can still be in place, social distancing, masks, many working from home, but life has to get back to some kind of normality before we return to the dark ages because of a virus that effects only a relative few seriously.
