And fails to show our three second-half goals to make the score 4-4.

Wasn't that the match where Dave Mackay started showing off to the crowd when they were winning, bowing down and such?
He was soon laughing on the other side of his face when we equalised.
(If I'm on the right game.)

Aye, and the trophy was shared, each club retaining it for six months.

Our other two Charity Shield appearances were both away from the Turf.

Before it went to Wembley it was held at the ground of the Champions.

First time I’ve seen footage of Colin McDonald.

That game at Chelsea was McDonald's 87th consecutive league game, but it was his last for a while. He broke his ankle in the game and had several weeks on the sidelines.

It allowed an opportunity for a young lad who had just had his 19th birthday to make his debut the following week, a certain Adam Blacklaw.

Two fantastic goalkeepers and great servants for our Club. Colin McDonald was arguably our finest ever keeper.

Cheers, Royboy, didn’t know any of that. I might have seen him play for an ex-Clarets team at Reedley in the early 60s but I was that young he wouldn’t have meant anything to me. I was too busy running around getting first teamers autographs.

They weren’t Champions or cup winners and we were Div2 Champs. No idea why the other 2 clubs pulled out.
Did they move it to Wembley to stimulate interest? Then we had Bremner and Keegan going at it.

Same applied on the only other occasion we appeared in the Charity Shield way back in 1921. We were First Division Champions with Tommy Boyle's famous team and Tottenham had won the FA Cup, and yet Tottenham was the chosen venue for the Charity Shield. We lost 0-2.

So, three appearances in the Charity Shield with one win, one draw and one defeat.
