"It doesn't matter if the cat is black or white so long as it catches mice" so said Deng Xiaoping the Chinese leader who started to transform the country economically once he came to power and by getting rid of a lot of state monopolies and handing over to the private individuals with enterprise but he kept a grip on the politics. So long as the country produces it matters little who does it so long as it happens and boy has it happened in ChinaRowls wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 10:27 pmNo, China is a shining example of what market capitalism can achieve.
China has driven the efforts to alleviate world poverty.
It is well on the way to becoming the primary world superpower thanks to adopting market capitalism.
What does all this mean? Well it probaly means an end to era of American hegemony and all the stuff that gets people hot and bothered.
But what does it mean for the people of China? It means that they are no longer starving to death, as they were when they had a Communist economic system.
They have more than enough to feed themselves and live thriving, prosperous lives.
All because they embraced market capitalism. Hopefully democratic reform will follow too.

Your guess is as good as mine. All I know is that it’s best not to read the Daily Express at the moment. I hardly ever have but, having flitted though the online papers this evening, I found that their main headlines consist of a prediction that somehow the death of this fellow is going to cause WW3 and that China is about to take revenge on the EU for the suggestions that they were responsible for bringing the world to it’s knees. That sort of journalism doesn’t help morale in any shape or form. I have woken up at this unearthly hour after suffering a series of nightmares. I’m hoping to go back to sleep.

Maybe people are finally tired of being told to keep Diana's memory alive and to brace themselves for freezing temperatures next winter!

Rowls lives in a little ideological world and selects statistics to suit himself. Identical to Corbyn, but the other end of the political scaleRingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 11:16 pmAah good. I'm so glad we clarified that.
Its grand that they've embraced capitalism (they haven't, for one nanosecond, they've simply exploited weak democracies but we'll gloss over that for brevitys sake)
And I now look forward, wholeheartedly, to it stepping back from continuing to be the tyrannical, brutal, murderous, imperialistic ,communist regime that, had it not attempted to lie and cover up what the rest of the planet was about to "enjoy" thanks to its endeavours, we may have had a chance to prevent thousands of unnecessary premature deaths.
Readjusted mortality figures- "1500"
Come on, you're supposed to be brighter than that.....

Re: Kim Jong Un dead?
Nonsense.
There are three choices for China:
1. Economic Communism (including poverty and starvation) & military dictatorship
2. Market capitalism (including prosperity and wealth) & military dictatorship
3. Market capitalism (including prosperity and wealth) & funcioning democracy
Option number 2 (which they currently have) is much better than option numer 1 (which they they in living memory) but not as good as option number 3.
Pointing this out ought to be the very hallmark of pragmatism but if you want ot try and call it "ideology" then best of luck to you.
And if you can actually remember your neighbours and relatives dying of starvation and were forbidden to even exchange or sell rice to help them (you only need to be able to remember the 1970s to recall this) but now you see your grandchildren travelling the world with pocket smart phones and witness skyscrapers towering where once there was nothing but badly maintained paddy fields farmed by wretched starving people like yourself ... you might be inclined to agree with the metaphor about cats and mice.mdd2 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 1:42 am"It doesn't matter if the cat is black or white so long as it catches mice" so said Deng Xiaoping the Chinese leader who started to transform the country economically once he came to power and by getting rid of a lot of state monopolies and handing over to the private individuals with enterprise but he kept a grip on the politics. Re: Kim Jong Un dead?
I’ve read that the reason that the operation was botched was because the surgeon couldn’t keep still on account of being so nervous.
Re: Kim Jong Un dead?
He was laughing at his haircut that's why he could not keep still!

Fake news?
South Korea have called bulls**t on this whole story. Unification Minister Kim Yeon-Chul has said "Our government has enough information-gathering capabilities to say confidently that there is nothing unusual"

I'm sick of this!! North Korean press haranguing my 'below stairs' staff outside my abode, simply because I haven't been shopping recently. Leave the lad alone, he's probably just bingeing on episodes of 'The Good life'. Loves Felicity Kendall.

If he is dead, and that's still to be confirmed, the successor is by no means certain.
