I can only imagine the tension of that game. We've got used to it since for a variety of reasons but we keep going back for more. How invaluable was Trevor Meredith proving? Someone of the class of John Connelly missing must have been such a blow but he was more than adequately replaced.
Patience is the way forward currently so I'll just have to wait and see how this story concludes. Really enjoyed these articles.

Wouldn’t have qualified for one under the rules and I believe those rules still apply although they have recently been relaxed for sub goalkeepers.

During the close season he was often seen in Haslingden. He was going out with a.girl from the town and I think someone confirmed.on here some time ago that they actually got married.

An excellent report plus local history, my parents bought me a Kodak Brownie camera around that time but it didn't lead to a lifetime of picture taking! Poverty was still prevalent in Burnley given the poor woman pushed into stealing from her own gas meter to buy food. Did the Birmingham fans celebrate on the pitch to spite neighbours Wolves?

I think CleggHall makes a very relevant point here. This was only 15 years after the war ended. Poverty everywhere in the country and it wasn't going away at all for many. I was/am so grateful for my dad taking me to matches on the bus from Rossendale during times of hardship.

Agreed Silky, although I didn't realise it at the time, money was tight for most families and the trip to Turf Moor to see world class, free-flowing football was a tonic and escape.

I'd just turned 8 when we won the league. I didn't attend every home.match that season but went to quite a few. Like.yourself.I just.took for granted that we could afford.to attend. And again, as you say, how privileged I was for that visit to Turf Moor to be a part of my.early years.

I don’t think as kids we realised how difficult things might have been. Not football related but when I was 12 I went on a school trip to West Germany and my mum and dad must have had to make some tremendous sacrifices to afford it.
