Any plumbers/handyman on here?
Wonder if anyone can advise me what kind of tap this is?
I know it's probably a needle in a haystack thing, but I think it's just a generic bathroom tap from b&q (may be dead stock though as I cant find them on the website)
Or even better, advice on how I would go about stripping it down to change the washer that restricts the water flow
Thanks in advance

Re: Any plumbers/handyman on here?
Just gonna throw this out there but it may be a water tap...??? They come in hot or cold and sometimes a mixer too. The easiest way to tell is to turn it and see if you get wet...
Sorry, I do like a wee bit of sarcasm these days

If you've got isolator valves on the taps its easier
Order or aquure new taps and fitbnrw ones
The originals are likely to be the throw away non fixable sort
Good luck
Plenty of utube clips to show how to remove taps

Re: Any plumbers/handyman on here?
Every one a winner!
My guess would be that the top of the handwheel (maybe where there looks to be an indent) , might just prise off, using a bit of care and a small screwdriver, or, less likely, unscrew off the top .
Underneath will be a screw which holds rest of the handwheel onto the spindle of the tap. Remove that and you should be able so see the working bits of the tap that you neeed to remove to get at the washer ......
on the other hand, being a b n q tap it might have no servicable bits at all !!

I,m a handyman, I live just up the road.
Re: Any plumbers/handyman on here?
Thanks pal. Think I'll do it that way. The reason I didnt want to fit new taps was that I think theres more chance of me flooding the house, and being in the bad books with her indoors, but then that sort of risk/reward excitement is probably what I need in my life right nowWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2020 1:31 pmIf you've got isolator valves on the taps its easier

Damo, I’m not a plumber, but I’m hands on, so if you’ve a pair of grips, I’d suggest you get a thick cloth and place it around the turn on/turn off part of the tap. Then apply your grips, while tightly holding the the tap outlet. Turn the grips anti clockwise and it may then unscrew off. If that’s successful, you can see whether it’s just a washer you need, or in some instances, the whole internal fitting would need replacing. Do not apply any tools direct to metal, or you will make a mess of the tap.

The body of those taps seem pretty standrd stock items. I reckon the tops (handles)
are on a spline and will, with gentle persuasion, pull off. That would reveal the valve
assembly that is screwed into the body.
If they're fairly modern taps, they could well be of the cartridge style as opposed to
the washer type.

I've always hated working with water - especially taps but those links make it look really simple, cheersFunkydrummer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2020 5:21 pmThe body of those taps seem pretty standrd stock items. I reckon the tops (handles)

I ended up just changing the taps. The bit you turn on the old ones were plastic, so I reckon I'd of ended up damaging them anyway.
Thanks for your help

Re: Any plumbers/handyman on here?
I've watched the video links which were very helpful. Can I get some advice as well please from our claret friends. I have I think it's called a deck mixer, it'll be 30 years old. We must have had some work done on them although I can't remember because they have short flexi pipes underneath them from the copper pipe to the under side of the tap. The fixed flexi part have a turn screw which I assume is to turn the water off and on. Am I okay to turn the water off using the Flexi pipe turn or should I turn it off at the mains, which is some distance away in an awkward place. I'm assuming with it being an old style it'll be a washer rather than a cartridge. Better see if I've got any washers first. Thanks in advance.

Re: Any plumbers/handyman on here?
It sounds like you do have isolating valves on your flexi pipes. Turn the screw head until the slot is at right angles to the pipe.beddie wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 8:21 amI've watched the video links which were very helpful. Turn on both hot and cold taps to check - some water will probably come out that's already in the pipe but should stop soon.

I'm not a plumber but I was a handy lad in my day.
Re: Any plumbers/handyman on here?
Funkydrummer. Thank you very much for that. I'll give it a go in the next few days. Appreciate the advice.

Aye, that's how I had to isolate the water to the hot tap.Funkydrummer wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 8:31 amIt sounds like you do have isolating valves on your flexi pipes. Turn the screw head until the slot is at right angles to the pipe.
