To give people a clue (as long as I've guessed correctly) this ground was replaced by the club in 1996.

Not sure when but the pics were taken in 1986 and both the same ground. Rowls is correct in his assumption that it's abroad.

I'll give you a clue - it's not Scotland, Wales or Ireland. It was the home of a very well known club.

It is Ajax - the De Meer Stadion in Amsterdam. Rowls was correct, it closed in 1996 and was demolished in 1998.

By chance I have and look at their number 9.

Brian Powney, Graham Howell, George Ley, Stan Brown, Norman Gall, Stephen Piper, Bert Murray, Barry Bridges, Willie Irvine, Brian Bromley (Ken Beamish 75), Peter O'Sullivan.

Dig deep and you’ll remember Barry Bridges from his Chelsea days. Had a decent career after that as well.

Bridges made his debut for Chelsea in February 1959 as a 17 year old against West Ham, but his second game was against Burnley at Stamford Bridge. This is what he had to say about those games.

A guy called Ken Brown marked me, he was a lovely guy on and off the pitch. I always remember that anytime I played a good pass or had a decent shot he would say "Well done, son".

In our next game we played Burnley and it was completely different. I remember going past one of their defenders and he said to me...."You can go past me, the ball can go past me, but you won't go past me together"....The next time I did he walloped me and it felt like I'd broken every bone in my body. But what a contrast between those two games.

It was Nov.'72...........Stevenson, Docherty, Newton, Dobson, Waldron, Thomson, Nulty, Casper, Fletcher, Collins & James.

It was Irvine's final game for Brighton, he signed for Halifax Town in December.

Correct. The only major change in the final half dozen matches was Billy Ingham at No.2 for Mick Docherty.

Aye, we beat Man City 1-0 at Maine Road.

Liverpool, as First Division Champions and Sunderland, as FA Cup winners chose not to compete, so we were invited (as Second Division Champions) to play the existing holders of the Charity Shield, Man City.

This was mentioned on another thread. I think the Champions and FA Cup winners were crying off. That was why they moved it to Wembley. It was still a big career highlight to play at Wembley back then. You could win the title and still never get there. Now it seems it’s difficult not to get there.

It was. We were sat in the North Stand, 4 or 5 rows behind, and to the right of that woman who always rung that big bell.
Didn't bother me much, but it did my Dads head in.
The result more than made up for it.
