Perhaps the longer you are with someone the probability of you being infected increases. 10 mins might be a significant amount of time. If it was everyone you just walked past the app would be meaningless.Funkydrummer wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 10:03 amThis is the most confusing thing about all this. Nope, the alert goes out before any tests.Grumps wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 9:13 amThe little I read was the person presses the button to say they have symptoms, that goes to whoever is managing the app, who arranges a test. If positive, the NHS then sends out the alert.
One thing to note is at some stage you need to have been close to the infected person for around ten minutes for you to receive the alert.

Sorry, you're wrong, I've just read again and it pings after a positive test
Taken from telegraph site
If an individual later reports that they are positive for coronavirus, it will then ping a message to people who have been in close-contact with them in the last 28 days based on their anonymous IDs.

We ignore good advice from other countries.
We refuse help from other countries.
We only seem to react to what others are doing, rather than being proactive.
And by the looks of it, we have an app that won't work as well as it will for others.

It quite clearly shows step 6 and being an alert to those who have been close to someone reporting symptoms and step 7 being the test. If the test is negative then a further alert is sent to the same people saying they can stop self isolating.
Besides, it doesn’t make sense. If you only alert after a possible test there could be up to three days when anyone infected by the person testing positive is infecting other people.

Re: Will You Be Downloading the App?
It still won't say someone has the virus until a test has been done... Which was the original question posed.
It may send out an Amber warning if someone has symptoms but not yet tested

Try reading the article. Someone reports symptoms and those who have been near them will be asked to self isolate even before any test.

Re: Will You Be Downloading the App?
Try reading the original post!! He was asking if anyone could tell everyone they HAVE THE VIRUS... That is only done AFTER a test.
Then try reading my post, where I say an Amber warning will be sent out if someone has symptoms, two completely different things
Why do you have to turn everything into an argument
Re: Will You Be Downloading the App?
The post was about spreading panic and unnecessary ‘lockdown’. That’s exactly what the app allows as an alert is sent out for people to self isolate when someone reports they have symptoms. You then claimed that no alerts are sent out until someone is tested which isn’t the case. I’ll only argue if a person continues to claim they are right despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary!Grumps wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 12:55 pmTry reading the original post!! For the benefit of Martin p. Note the term... Have Covid.... How many will say they HAVE It when they haven't..Barry_Chuckle wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 8:56 amThe problem with this app idea, is that it relies on individuals to notify through the app that they now have covid. How many attention seeking tw@ts will notify they have it when the haven't? This would trigger a notification to all those who could have come into contact with this individual, spreading panic, worry and potentially unnecessary lockdown for these individuals.
I do hope the law throw the book at individuals who do this by way of a hefty fine.
The spreading of panic is all about people saying they have it, when they haven't
My point has always been a ping for people who HAVE the virus is only sent AFTER A POSITIVE TEST.
Re: Will You Be Downloading the App?
For the benefit of Grumps this is what you actually said, which is where I picked you up as being wrong. The NHS only send out an alert if the test is negative as those in contact with the person who reported symptoms are by that point self isolating anyway. But it’s clear you don’t want to understand how it works so I’ll leave it there.

Islanders react to app: 'I won't be a guinea pig'
The UK government has chosen the Isle of Wight to test its coronavirus tracing app, but what do the islanders make of it?
Some like parish councillor Daryll Pitcher say they do not want to be "guinea pigs".
"I am greatly concerned that this trial has been imposed on the Isle of Wight and I believe that the final say should have been local," he said.
Pitcher, who is the Covid-19 response co-ordinator for the island's Wootton village, said he had concerns regarding his civil liberties and data security, because the app traces anyone who has recently been in contact with someone with the virus.
He also said he felt the island was "not a suitable testing area" due to its demographics and geography, both of which vary from the UK's national average.
This chap shares the worries a few people have expressed on this thread over data protection, the UK government might have to rethink whether to continue with this trial,if there's widespread resistance on the island.

As the Register article (linked from the Twitter feed above) points out, the CEO of the company running the app has told MPs that they will continue to own the data, UK citizens will not have the right to be deleted from it, and the company will use it for research purposes going into the future.tiger76 wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 9:49 pmIslanders react to app: 'I won't be a guinea pig'

I'm someone in favour of using big data to find solutions to problems (I think we should all be on a DNA register, for example), however the organisation that holds the data and provides access to it, has to be publicly owned, at arms length from the government (and the police, and NHS, etc), and has to have a very clear mandate as to what its purpose is, and the rules under which it operates.
This new app crosses boundaries it shouldn't. Other countries aren't going for the data harvesting, so why are we? Just when you think the government couldn't get more crap in this crisis, they actually do.

App 'does not work' on Huawei phones
Huawei and some older mobile phones cannot run the NHS contact-tracing app being trialled on the Isle of Wight, according to NHSX, the health service's digital innovation unit.
Dr Geraint Lewis, who is in charge of the development of the NHS Covid-19 app, said the new tool would only work with newer operating systems on Apple and Samsung phones.
Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, he said phones needed to have the capability of running Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and to be running either Apple ios 11 upwards or Android 8 upwards.
He said there were three reasons why a phone would not run the app. Either the development team had not got around to supporting that particular phone; the phone itself does not have BLE, or the operating system is not supported.

I must admit that thought did cross my mind, but i think it's just because the app doesn't work on older phones,i'm not tech savvy, but that's my understanding.
Re: Will You Be Downloading the App?
It’s more to do with google not allowing Huawei to use the latest Android OS on their phones because the US government blocked Chinese tech firms from doing business with them, all to do with anti trust stuff I think...
