A player who was bought by Everton from Grimsby reserves. A player who went on to have a respectable career but seemed to flit from brilliance to antipathy. A real enigma but undoubtedly talented.

He did well when he came in. Cotterill was considering signing him that summer but then a better alternative at Leeds cane available - Robbie Blake.

Cotterill said Blake was the best player he ever worked with and as soon as he knew he had a chance of getting him back in he was always going to do what he could to get the deal done.
