1979 FA Cup final

Post by Herts Clarets » Sat May 09, 2020 5:41 pm

On ITV now. I remember watching this at my Uncle's wedding. Quite a posh do at a country club in the Midlands. A 10 year old me was only interested in the Cup Final.

Just noticed, 2 future Burnley managers within the United team and management......

If I’m guessing correctly I’d hardly call one of them a manager. Come to think of it, it probably applies to both.

In name only. Both of them were at our club in the darkest of days. One left before he could do too much damage, the other stayed far too long and caused way too much damage.

There was also a glimpse of Bob Lord with the dignitaries before the kick off.

Yes, Cassidy was wearing his stupid basbeball hat back then too.

I watched the game on tv in the back room of the Hop with a lot of the Hop regulars. Bob, the then landlord, was a Manu fan, and most us were anti Manu so we're supporting Arsenal. It really was a very good, exciting game to watch, and I seem to remember I had a bet of three pints of bitter with the landlord on who won. Happy days!!
