Re: dog attack
Nothing wrong with dogs off the lead, providing they are suitably trained and can be controlled well.
Of course you will always get those who are not well trained, and unfortunately that leads to incidents like in the OP.

Saw something on social media, an 18 month old boy was bitten apparently. Hope they can find the dog and who it belongs to.

Hopefully they’ll put the dog and the owner down.

The amount of times my dogs been bitten or snapped at is beyond a joke and the owners always say 'so sorry he/she's never done that before'
People who think they 'know' their dog are kidding themselves
They're an unpredictable animal simple as that

All dogs should be microchipped and an owner should be made to have a dog licence. would get rid of all the chavs with pit bulls etc

A dog is a potential weapon, a person who stabs someone cant argue that it was the knife not me therefore your dog attacks someone you are as guilty and should be charged accordingly.

Strange comments for a dog owner to make.

What.....a dog license is no longer required?
Re: dog attack
My Springer Spaniel isn't a potential weapon, unless she was to lick you to death but yes you're right, it's down to the owners & the breed of dog.

Call me sentimental if you want but this thread is making me think about my late friend Hampstead Claret.
Re: dog attack
You live and learn I guess
Never had mine on a lead as a pup and trained her quite well to stay by my side but once whilst out walking we saw a deer which bolted and she gave chase. No amount of calling got her back, only when she didn't catch up with deer did she finally come back.
A few days later she ran up to a dog in the park on a lead
And got bit
I should have learnt with the deer experience but she's always on the lead now
She's a terrier mind

I wasn’t saying you’re wrong to own a dog nor do I think you’re wrong to have one. It was just what your view is and how I read it I suppose.CBT wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 7:55 pmYou live and learn I guess

Re: dog attack
There are certain dogs that are so powerful they should be banned but for some reason the government will not do it, the penalties as well are not harsh enough.

Dogs have a purpose & play an important role for the police force & blind people, I've always kept German shepherds as guard dogs there are well trained to do the job. Dogs should be muzzled really if off the lead & people are about.

When reared from a puppy you make sure the dog/bitch knows who's boss, don't allow them to become too friendly with people, the breed itself from a instinctive point of view they are well adept & programmed to protect & stay loyal to there master.

Ok...so the dog knows who's boss. And you dont allow them to be friendly. So basically you train german shepherds to be nasty?Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 9:08 pmWhen reared from a puppy you make sure the dog/bitch knows who's boss, don't allow them to become too friendly with people, the breed itself from a instinctive point of view they are well adept & programmed to protect & stay loyal to there master.
Re: dog attack
End of the day a little boy could well be scared for life and terrified of dogs surely that is the crux of this and bad owners and vicious powerful dogs should be banned.

Re: dog attack
I didn't realise what a problem this was till I had a baby. Now she's a toddler she loves a bit of freedom to run about on the grass. And she loves dogs, not a bit afraid of them. Which is lovely, but the amount of times I have to react quickly to scoop her up as a dog races towards her, with the owner failing to call them back, is nuts. It happens all the time. Now 99 times out of 100 the dog would probably try and lick her face I'm sure, but it's obviously a risk I can't take. I love dogs and parks would be all the poorer without them, but unless they're under control they shouldn't be off the lead around little kids.

Dogs lick more than faces. They dont belong in parks or on council owned football pitches.

Re: dog attack
If we could just put down all “ pit bull type” dogs along with their immediate owners the country would be a slightly safer and far more pleasant place imo
Re: dog attack
Dogs don't have "fault" or "no fault". They don't have a moral code whereby they don't do something because their conscience won't let them. The things they don't do are because they have been told (by their owner or their mother) not to do it.
So there is no need to judge the dog except by the standard "is it safe". And if it his bitten a child, then (barring exceptional circumstances - ie. the child being out of control, which is unlikely) then no, it's not safe.
