Re: dog attack
They'd be forever searching property's, lockups & containers ect without sniffer dogs, I'm not sure you realise or appreciate just how much time is saved thus deploying resources elsewhere, or when criminals steal cars & end up abandoning the crashed vehicles & take to the fields to hide out.

Re: dog attack
Compulsory dog license along with 3rd party public liability insurance. Also, compulsory muzzling if off the leash in a public area including parks.

Re: dog attack
Whenever I see reports of a dog attack it nearly always seems to involve a child.
It makes me wonder whether the problem is more about out of control children than out of control dogs and maybe we should be introducing a child licence along with 3rd party public liability insurance.
Too many young children are just allowed to run freely around parks by blase parents and this obviously needs addressing

Re: dog attack
Probably more to do with the fact that children's eyes are lower and the dog perceives them as less of a threat. Especially if the child sits or lies on the floor and the eyes are lower than the dog's. (I once had a photo taken with an Alsation that was nice as pie when taken for a walk but didn't like it at all when I knelt down beside it. Growled, nothing worse. And it works in a similar way with children - put a child on a stage so its eyes are at the same height as your eyes, and the child might well be thrilled to bits.)Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 12:20 amWhenever I see reports of a dog attack it nearly always seems to involve a child.

Incidentally, children should be allowed to run round parks. Parks are made for running round. A dog that can't get out of the way of a child isn't going to be active enough to savage anyone. By "out of control" earlier I meant that a child might be sticking a pen in a dog's ear or some other genuinely objectionable behaviour.

Re: dog attack
Really awful news.
The father of the poor child is a good lad who has had a **** 12 months. Hopefully someone comes forward and the owner is identified quickly.

I read something brilliant years ago about how a dog might behave in certain circumstances.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 12:20 amWhenever I see reports of a dog attack it nearly always seems to involve a child.

It was basically saying “Imagine you go the pub, meet your friends and one of them pats you on your back”. How would you react?
Now, go to the pub again, your friends are late but a stranger pats you on your back, do you react the same?

I deliver newsletters twice a year. You have to watch your fingers. At some letterboxes, a dog will bark, leap and literally tear the newsletter from my hand, as it appears on its side of the letterbox. The owners must never get post! Why would you want such an untrained and aggressive beast?

Re: dog attack
I don't think the owners get much say in who delivers their mail. Dont be so hard on yourself though, for a Scotsman Id say you're pretty well behaved and not that aggressive at all.

I can’t think why else dogs would behave like that. I know sometimes they like to read newsletters but they’re not usually so eager to destroy the distributor.
