The '1 to 11' Quiz

Post by Foulthrow » Sun May 10, 2020 3:44 pm

I'm trying to pass a bored lockdown Sunday afternoon so thought I'd have a go at doing a quiz.

Can you name the starting XIs from a random fixture I've selected? Guess wrong and you're out. Or keep playing it's up to you....

My first fixture is......

18th August 1998. Burnley vs Bury. League Cup. Second Leg.

I'm after the players for both Burnley and Bury.

Think Tony Parks was in goal and I think Payts got our goal.

Paul Smith.

Edit: Memory may be playing a trick on me here. I recall a bit in Stan's book about Smith but thinking again it may have been in a game where he was managing Bury.

Think we’d have an outstanding back four of Brass, Blatherwick, Howe, Morgan.

Indeed we did. Although what I'm looking at lists someone who I thought was a defender as 'midfield' so maybe we played a back five?

Just missing one starter for Burnley. I've gave a clue earlier that he was listed as midfield but I thought he was a defender.

If anyone wants a little bonus no-one has mentioned any of the three subs who came on for us.

And you've got four of the Bury team - Kiely, Daws, Johnrose and Lucketti. Plus the two subs who came on - Armstrong and Matthews.

There's at least two that I'd say were 'gettable'.

What's more amazing is I'm sure we drew the first leg at Gigg Lane!
