Re: Sport Club Freiburg
I've 'adopted' freiburg as my german team after reading the sky sports article that compared them to Burnley.
Will try and watch them at home against Werder Bremen next saturday

Eintracht Frankfurt for me. Saw them on the Turf as a 10 year-old. It was the first game that I had watched without my dad. I stood on the bee hole end, with the evening sun in my eyes. We got mullered, think it was 1-3. They have been my German team since then.

Chekhov - is Elzach where the local train line from Freiburg ends? The last train runs later than the mainline....

That’s the one MT03ALG although it’s a replacement bus service at the moment, they’re electrifying the line. I guess that’s the Germans for you: they’re continually upgrading their infrastructure!

Yes, they also recently electrified the line from the Titisee through Hell Valley to Freiburg. I think I played for SV Hausach in Elzach in about 1972 in a tournament to celebrate the opening of the new sports' stadium in Elzach. The train to Elzach from Freiburg was useful because the last train was later than the last train to Hausach via Offenburg.

Re: Sport Club Freiburg
I’ve taken that line to Titisee. Very pretty. Do you still live down there (Hausach)? Wow, 1972 that’s going back a bit! I cycled often past the sports stadium in Elzach. It’s quite a set up now. They recently added an all-weather pitch and clay tennis courts. Anyway I enjoyed the area. Freiburg is such a beautiful city with loads of great places to hang out. My favourite haunt is O’Kelly’s where I’d go to watch the footy. Friendly staff and Mo, the manager would always make sure there was a screen for me watch if Burnley were on. Happy days!MT03ALG wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2020 11:59 amYes, they also recently electrified the line from the Titisee through Hell Valley to Freiburg. Re: Sport Club Freiburg
I was the English Language Assistant at the Grammar School in Hausach from 1971-1972 then stayed on and worked for Hukla GmbH in Gengenbach (another beautiful town). I played football for 3 years for Sport Verein Hausach before returning to England to teach German and French. However, I usually spend 4 weeks a year in the Summer and 2 weeks in the Autumn on holiday in Hausach (sometimes also a week at Carnival Time or just before Christmas) and visit Freiburg quite a lot including a Bundesliga game if possible. The new Freiburg stadium is north of Freiburg near the Flugplatz so will be easier to access from Hausach and Elzach. There is now a group of Black Forest Clarets based in Hausach who come over regularly to watch the mightly Clarets !!

Re: Sport Club Freiburg
Also du verstehst deutsch! Sehr interessant deine Antwort zu lesen. My German unfortunately isn’t so brilliant but hopefully if I manage to return after the lockdown I’ll be able to work on it a bit. Hopefully I too will be able to check out the new stadium next season. At least it should be easier to get hold of a ticket. Brilliant that there are Black Forest Clarets! Shame I didn’t know about them when I was there.

Slipped up today at home to Bremen, but Wolfsburg also lost so they've not lost ground in the fight for a European spot.

My 4 weeks in Hausach this Summer were booked for June 2020 but I unfortunately had to cancel for obvious reasons !! I will hopefully travel in the Autumn when the new stadium may be in operation.

Re: Sport Club Freiburg
Freiburg are nearly always second best to Gladbach in the Schwarzwaldstadion but often win the points. My German Gladbach fans tear their hair out whenevr Gladbach play in Freiburg ! Today's first half was typical but Freiburg improved after the break.

Re: Sport Club Freiburg
Second best for 45 minutes, and yet emerging with the 3 points, after an improved 2nd half, Oh! and a clean sheet to boot, I've read this script somewhere before.

Re: Sport Club Freiburg
My friends in gladbach sent me this picture. They aren’t allowed to go to games still but we’re allowed to watch at the pub with little restriction. Hopefully another positive sign.

Re: Sport Club Freiburg
Should be interesting to see how Freiburg get along this afternoon. They are away to Bayern which probably means they are going to get hammered, however they’ve been on a brilliant run having made a poor start to the season.
They are unbeaten in 7 and have won their last 5 games, 2-0, 0-2, 4-1, 1-3, and 5-0.
Not expecting them to win this afternoon
but it would be nice if they could upset Bayern’s apple cart.

Is Freiburg the ground which has the amazing views which were posted on here 2 or 3 years back?? If so, I'd definitely be supporting them (providing I could actually attend games that is!!)

Re: Sport Club Freiburg
The Schwartzwaldstadion where they play is overlooked by wooded hillsides, effectively the Black Forest. Very picturesque, although from next season they are moving to a larger, 35,000 capacity ground, which will include a good proportion of standing places. Unfortunately though, they will lose the beautiful setting as the new stadium out on the other side of the city.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sun Jan 17, 2021 12:11 pmIs Freiburg the ground which has the amazing views which were posted on here 2 or 3 years back?? Re: Sport Club Freiburg
The Freiburg sponsor is Schwarzwaldmilch = Black Forest milk. When I holiday in the Black Forest I rent a flat on a dairy farm. The farmer has big connections with Schwarzwaldmilch, whose tanker collect his milk every day and his daughter works for the company.

Re: Sport Club Freiburg
SC Freiburg a bit unlucky against the Champions League Winners ! At least they scored a goal and almost equalised late on...
