Re: Soon back to normal in the capital
I couldn't possibly live in London, or any other big city.
I moved into my village twenty one years ago, since when, apart from the occasional theft of sheep, there had been one reported crime, when an outsider driving through threw a stone through a window.

London and the south, is it what you call living?
If you look or smile at anyone, they think you're going to rob them. People always seem to be on their guard and anticipating a threat. Not relaxing enough for me.

Lots of places in "the South" are not at all like London - including where I live. Pretty much like Liverpool (or Manchester) isnt the same as "the north".No Ney Never wrote: ↑Sat May 16, 2020 9:53 pmLondon and the south, is it what you call living?

Re: Soon back to normal in the capital
have lived in numerous countries and large cities, London still my favorite but a couple of others had fantastic reasons to live in that place but London edges it. Besides living in those places I have obviously visited many other wonderful cities and yet there are so many yet to see but I'm running out of time, like other UK cities it is easy to get away from to beautiful country side and yet the Trough of Bowland is probably the most beautiful place for me.

Currently working on the edge of trough.painting holiday lodges while they're empty..nice but working takes the edge off it. Still London for me..painting at St Katherine's dock..and Berry Brothers wine merchants facing St James palace topped it.KateR wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2020 4:13 pmhave lived in numerous countries and large cities, London still my favorite but a couple of others had fantastic reasons to live in that place but London edges it. Call at the Inn at Whitewell on the way home to finish off a great, relaxing
day with a lovely pint of real cask ale.

Picturesque place to work for sure. Love St Katherines dock, did New Years Eve 2018 dinner and got to see the fireworks at a distance, our youngest has hardly been in the UK but born at Burnley General claims he's British but his brother and the rest of the family tease him about being a yank. We have had a timeshare in the lakes for over 30 years, just a week but have been there nearly every year and always come back through the trough, our children grew up with the lakes as a tradition and they think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Re: Soon back to normal in the capital
we nearly always went to the lakes via M6 but returning we would stop Kirby Longsdale and then come down into the trough choosing different routes, my mother always loved Seetle and Wigglesworth to we would call there and invariably over to Skipton and make a full long day of it, priceless memories. For the males in the family it was always about pies or steak & kidney puddings, plus of course beer. They always have long discussions on where to get the best pies/puddings and beer for that trip and many days out in the lakes were planned around those activities.
Not looking like we will be there this year though although if they open up enough our eldest will take the opportunity to go for the full week, normally they do the two weekends.

It's not about thieves, more to do with general interaction between strangers.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2020 12:27 amYeah because nowhere else in the country has thieves..

I can get aggro just the same in some parts of Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Birmingham just the same as I can in some parts of London. No Ney Never wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2020 8:58 pmIt's not about thieves, more to do with general interaction between strangers.
Not all areas of those cities are shady places.
Yes London has some real problems that for whatever reason people in charge don't want to face up to and deal with.

Re: Soon back to normal in the capital
We got our house in Burnley burgled 3 times
I've never had that in Sunny Berkshire
The pollution in London is what would really worry me .
Driving to West Ham off the M25 you can see a dirty grey pall hanging over the City, like driving to Boro but denser,a bit like the fans.

I've lived in Horsham, Brighton and Clapham and enjoyed them all as they all suited my 'stage in life'...
Clapham - 20s
Brighton - 30s
Horsham - 40s
On the other hand I also spent 2 years in Leatherhead, and that's a right dull sh-thole

If your username indicates where you're living, I'll be over later to rectify the lack of burglaries, it's not far from me.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Mon May 18, 2020 6:56 amWe got our house in Burnley burgled 3 times

Re: Soon back to normal in the capital
I go to London probably around 5 times a year for events and exhibitions. How anyone from there has the gall to slag Burnley off is beyond me, as it is a paradise compared to the general grimy nature of most of London.
