When lockdown ends I'm just going to walk out of my front door and mingle with the holidaymakers that visit my home village in the East Neuk of Fife, nothing else comes close, dont need to go far....sorry if that offends anyone
Who could that possibly offend 🤔.

Given that we are likely to have some “fun” in check in and security due to social distancing, I think the UK is very sensible. A cottage for a week in some nice hilly backwater sounds perfect.

I just found out that my girlfriend has booked, (what would have been a surprise), 60th birthday present, trip to Israel. We are supposed to be going in October. She had even spoken to my company to arrange time off. I hope that things have improved massively by then but as things stand I don't fancy going.

Not at all - I’m not going to jump on anyone’s hopes and dreams, as it’s healthy to look forward to better times ahead.
My annoyance was aimed at all those that took advantage of the impending problems, booking last minute cheap holidays whilst knowing there were risks, and also all those that required emergency flight repatriation.

That'll be the problem for us, I've no concerns about where we'd go, their rates of infection are much lower than ours, it's the airports either end I'd be wary of.

If it's this year, the white isle. If we've to wait until next, Singapore-Taipei-Tokyo in spring or South Africa in the summer.

Can I reiterate that I wasn’t referring to anyone on this board, though it does seem to have hit a nerve with you?
As far as I’m aware, the numbers were not low at all and, as for emergency flights, I believe at least seventy were organised and there are still people waiting to be repatriated.

You do realise that the vast majority of people who were repatriated were people who worked abroad don't you?
Most holiday flights, which is the subject you bang on about, operated as normal incoming for several weeks after the 23rd of March. At no cost to the British tax payer
Take Jet2 for example, they stopped outbound flights on 14th march, but continued their inbound program for over a week, meaning passengers flew back on their original date. So, even if people had booked late holidays in March, which I maintain will be low in numbers, they would have flown back as per their booking.

I don't accept this, I've said all along each to their own - if you're not strong enough, physically, mentally or financially to take a holiday that is
adventurous , then it's perfectly fine to tailor your holiday experience to your needs. I'm OK, I go where I want and when I want and some object to that.
I don't see any hypocrisy in what I choose to do whatsoever. Free country and all that...

I get that people are envious of others' opportunities and good fortune, resentment isn't admirable but I do understand it.

It's strange that of the two of my most ardent followers, one - by his own admission on his other thread - is old, weak, feeling ill and generally, very nearly dead. He lives, apparently, in glorious tranquility on the Scottish coast, good for him, but when you read that his ambition, when the end of lockdown comes, is to get out of his front door, it's sad to think, isn't it - as one poster has already pointed out - that the dream move seems to be anything but.

We've a family friend who moved from Wigan - who wouldn't  - to not far from Steviebaby but she is different ; same age but lively, energetic and forward-looking. She has a great place by the sea, joins in the local community, part owns a business and STILL travels elsewhere.

A massive contrast - no shouting at the clouds or railing at other people's successes.

And , by the same token, we have another clown joking self-consciously about "slummimg" a couple of European holidays. That's a shame, these Sunday Supplement mini-cruises serve a useful purpose for old folk on a tight budget and with no independent spirit, ideal for those happy to sit on their backsides for a few days on a boat and a coach, comparing Covid stories, tutting at prices and taking in the heady atmosphere of the stink of each other's pi$$.
Lovely !

So there we have it. Lots of interesting thoughts re travelling on this board , spoiled, almost, by the bitterness of a few.

Have a good day, boys ! 8-)

Think you’re getting confused - I’d re read your post if I was you as it seems contradictory. I do acknowledge that some repatriation flights were required for people working oversees. Generally though, they were for happy holidayers who didn’t try to get flights back ASAP. The usual suspects who don’t believe that they have any responsibility for their own safety.
Now, get a life and shrug off your paranoid guilt.

Excuse me, but YOU have been haranguing me ever since I posted MY opinion on irresponsible ‘holidaying’ in the approaching days to the PANDEMIC. This is history now and will be revisited by commentators in the future. It’s not something that I dwell on - neither are you. This is a completely different thread, in a different time and I would appreciate it if you would refrain from dragging my name into any more threads, especially with cheap, witless remarks/references that, in all honesty, other posters are not acquainted with.
I’m extremely happy that we can all look FORWARD to happy times and I wish you all the best.

Greece for me...Looking forward to experiencing once again a lazy day on a small Greek island. Warm sunshine, swimming in the crystal clear Aegean sea, relaxing with a good book, watching the ferries come and go, ice cold beer, delicious food in atmospheric and friendly Tavernas. God I love Greece !!

Christ, Bosst**t, that's cutting.

Tug, tug !

Two weak, jealous old arseholes with no ambition, waiting to die. One booking two, yes you read it right two, **** pensioner mini cruises, the other too knackered to do anything of any meaning. Impressive, huh ?

Brilliant, keep it coming, so to speak, lads, truth is I couldn't care less what you think. I don't know you, I'm not likely to so why should I care what you have to say, where you go, whether you're well or whether you' re ill ?

I don't normally wish illness or misfortune on anyone but, hey, I'll not lose any sleep over you two and your shite existences.

Sorry to the rest of you for the thread being steered off topic yet again but I think, I hope, I've made my thoughts - however brutally honest - regarding these goons clear enough.

No doubt they and their mates will carry on yapping but if the mods are happy to go along with it, so am I.

Unlikely to be going ahead, I guess, but the UK leg of the Mountain Biking World Championship is worth watching up there. They're both riding and falling down the mountain at the same time.
