Victor Moses

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Fri May 22, 2020 10:17 am

Chelsea want shut of him for £10m. I imagine they’d struggle to get half that in the current climate.

Wouldn’t be a bad Dyche signing if we are going to spend.

Where would he fit in amongst the playing staff. I have it that he's a right sided forward, not sure on that though.

Good a couple of years ago but how has he done since he last played for Chelsea ? Presume he’s been on loan somewhere ?
Think at his age and salary perfect for West Ham or Palace for one last big pay day which he then spends mostly injured.
With our financial situation I think we need to go down a different route for signings with one eye on the future and lowering our wage bill / thinking about players who would do well in the championship / we can develop into better players and increase their value etc

He’d converted himself into a decent wing back at Chelsea - used to be further up the field as winger when at Stoke and earlier years at Chelsea. Good player in his time.

It's a decent shout CFC. A very good player. Suspect wages would be a problem though.

I might be in a minority, but always thought he was over-rated and couldn't understand how he became a regular for Chelsea a few years ago.

Had loans at Fenerbahce (did alright) and Inter (barely played).

Not sure - used to be a good player and I always we could do with players like this but lots of caveats. Worth a look if fee/wages not silly (I suspect might be).

I remember being surprised when he went to Chelsea, after having a fairly mediocre career up to that point, then he looked very good the season they won the league as a wing back.

I do worry he was made to look good in a good team, and that's before talking about wages.

£10m is a lot of money

Inter Milan wanted to make his loan move permanent, but the asking price is cooling their interest,if Lennon goes we're short on the right,so he's not a bad shout if we can broker a sensible fee and his wages aren't a stumbling block,he's only got 12 months on his contract so Chelsea aren't going to get silly money especially in the current market,Lennon's 33 Moses is only 29,so we'll get a good couple of years out of him,my nagging doubt is he's a habit of picking up niggling injuries which keep him out for lengthy spells,we've already got plenty of injury prone wide men.

Maybe not...but the fleshpots of Cheshire and South Manchester do hold an allure for footballers.

I'd imagine wages and the London factor (even with the pull of Manchester) would rule this out.

But yeah, he'd be a very good signing if the price and his attitude were both right.

I thought that initially, but then i remembered he played at Wigan,as well as his brief loan stint at Liverpool, the lure of Burnley is regular 1st team Prem football, that's not a bad carrot to dangle.

Hes probably too expensive and not the right personality at a guess but I think he’d be great at right back/right wing (he can play both) for us. With the current setup with Hendrick/brownhill playing right wing and dropping in, he’s be a perfect right back for us.

The busy streets of London to a quiet spot in the Ribble Valley / Trough of Bowland - that's what everyone wants these days.

He's got pace to burn on the flank, how many crosses could go in to be met by wood, aside from playing centrally more, it's a alternative outlet which could yield some goals if not at least the threat intent, far too predictable sometimes lumping it & hoping for the best
It's far too easy to counter & anticipate for opposing teams, it's easily worked out the hard graft & usual shift counterbalances so it's more effective the system usually deployed, sometimes you need to shuffle the pack to offer something different.

Apart from finances, it's not the type of signing that has been a success for Burnley under Dyche.

We need players that want to prove themselves.

I think he would be a fantastic signing but no way would we shell out 10 million for him. Plus he’s probably on 100k a week.

If footballers only ever signed for clubs based on how nice the town is then we'd struggle to field 11 players. Moses is from Nigeria and left London to play for Wigan. Professional footballers by and large go where the money is. That may rule us out and the likes of Palace may well be more desirable but I wouldn't rule us out purely on location.

As I recall when VM left palace initially CP were undergoing cash difficulties so he went to Wigan so palace could get the taxman off there back, Wigan were the only suitors willing to stump the cash up on the terms favourable to palace, on VMs part wasn't optional or desirable the club had to sell he had to go whether he liked it or not.

No footballer can be forced to join a club against their will, whatever the financial position of their then club.

If Moses was insistent about staying in London, he'd have stayed in London. He didn't. Not just when he signed for Wigan - but when he was sent on loan to Liverpool and Stoke, too.

Personally, I've never really had cause to consider how obsessed with London life Victor Moses is, and I've no great idea about his personality, or lifestyle preferences. Surprised at the numbers on here who think they might, though.

No they can't, but all the right noises were was that he had to leave & also the moral dilemma coming into play at the time that he was helping the club which he had an affinity to, a special bond forged from being a youngster connected to the club, in every possible sense going to Wigan was the only choice & helping palace out from being in the s**t at the same time.

I’m not being funny but given Victor Moses background it’s an absolute miracle that he made it as a professional footballer, let alone have a successful career. So doubts about his character I think are way off the mark.

For those who don’t know, his parents worked as missionaries in Nigeria and were killed in religious riots when he was 11 years old. He then became a refugee and was taken in by a family in South London where he gained a place at a local grammar school. Before coming through the ranks at Palace.
