What a great night the Spurs league cup game was.
We went to the Bolton game on the Saturday before
and everybody was on a downer after that game.
The Spurs game was my mates 18th birthday.
He couldn’t have been happier.

Was hoping it was going to work out and perhaps in the end he was hard done by. However, apart from good signings, it didn't work out the second time either.
I know exactly where i was that Spurs night, listening to the commentary on Radio 2

Brian Miller once told the Accy Clarets that "terms were agreed with Danny Wilson for the 82/83 season, he needed to replace Tommy Cassidy, who could no longer do 90mins" . The directors pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute and Miller never knew why. It might have been so different, it took a long time to recover from that relegation.

They did the same with Aldridge & Cockerill and then prevented him bringing in Reid from Bolton.

Think I also remember him on the pitch at Deadwood when the Darwen End was being dismantled, (Easter, '83?) trying to calm the fans down.
I'll always remember Frank for his playing abilities, rather than his managerial prowess.

I sort of opted to miss that game out, it was one of the five successive defeats that saw us slide back down. I'm not so sure Frank did anything to calm anything down to be honest. He came out and said over a microphone that the fans causing the problems were a disgrace and not wanted at Burnley.

Who knocked us out of the FA Cup that season and did we beat any teams from higher divisions in that run?

We'd beaten Coventry, Birmingham and Spurs in the League Cup, all first division clubs but none in the FA Cup. We'd beaten Carlisle, Swindon and Crystal Palace before losing the replay at Sheffield Wednesday in the 6th round.

It felt like a loss before kick off. Sheffield fans had turned out in droves and the atmosphere was such that we were lambs to the slaughter
Only ever felt that prematch once more. At Arsenal when the Frog retired.
Both games 5-0

Doing OK that night until Brian Flynn gave a goal away and there was no way back from that. After the first goal they murdered us and the home fans were amazing that night.

They were a better side than us but we'd played them three times previously that season and won one and drawn the other two. We were both in the same division but we went down and they finished sixth so in today's football would have made the play offs. We were OK until that first goal went in but were then simply outplayed on a night when everyone in Sheffield on the blue side seemed to turn out. There were 16,329 there for the league game earlier in the season but the cup attendance was 41,731.

Didn't Burnley beat Sheffield Wednesday at home 4-1 that same season?
Was that a bit of a fluke result or did it give real cause for optimism for the cup game?

The league win was a shock result. We’d won one of the last 13 games, two out of the last 18. But we went into the cup tie on a good run of form so there was plenty of optimism. But they were just too good for us in the end.

We could of won the first game had Stevie Taylor not messed the pen and that was virtually the end of him, despite a couple of hatricks that season, yet more goals in him in the seasons ahead.
Highlights also were beating David Speedie and Chelsea, Kevin Keegan's & Terry Mcdermot's Newcastle. there's 10,000 coming down as we were enroute from Guisborough.

I took a load of kids from my Oxfordshire school in our school minibus.The traffic was horrendous and when I spotted the police escorted Burnley team bus I latched on behind it
We were ushered into the ground parking .
A great night one of my all time favourite games still.

Watching the highlights that is possibly the most feeble penalty I've ever seen.
