So the row with Bond must have taken place pre season 1984. It was a real shame that Brian took the stance he did but he was a stubborn so and so.

No doubt he was stubborn but the fact remains that Bond had gone by the time he stopped going.

I reckon the first Burnley manager i ever had a row with was Brian Miller back in the late 70s. Happen as well I didn’t take the same action.

In today's age what happened with Gallagher would be a police matter as it was fraud.

Two points really. Our medical people should have picked it up but West Ham should have told us. The rules now insist that medical information is passed on although medicals are now a world away from how they were back in the 1980s.

If Reeves had not been injured, we'd have gone up. If Bond had not left, we wouldn't have been relegated to the 4th in 1985.

We were extremely poor under Bond. Plenty of ‘names’ eeking their last sporting salary.

He went on to Manage Chesterfield. He was their Manager when they reached the F.A. Cup Semi Final in 1997.
Sean Dyche has mentioned him as being one of his mentors, I seem to recall.

Bond wasn't really my cup of tea and I was surprised when he became manager. He was certainly unlucky with Reeves who I thought was a fantastic player but some of his signings were poor. Difficult to know what really went on off the pitch as there seemed to be a different rumour every week.
What followed though was nothing short of a nightmare.

There was a rumour doing the rounds at the time, that John Jackson presented him with a Jaguar. He said to Bond, "that's yours, a company car, to do with, what you see fit". So Bond sold it. How true that is, I'll never know. But sums him up in my book. Two hat.

Reb has already confirmed it was a non story and if Reb says so then that is good enough for me. Good manager or bad manager is for everyone to decide but as a person Bond was a gentleman.

Genuine question, mdd2, but why would you not reveal any of it on here? Most of (if not all) of the protagonists have departed this mortal coil and so can't be libelled. If anything, I'd really like to know the other side of the story as I was only eight years old when John Bond was appointed and so cannot claim to have any real perspective about Bond as a person or a manager. It needs someone like you to set the record straight.

That's always how I found him - I'd say Reb & mdd2 would probably have known him better than anyone else.

Probably the most unfairly reviled man in the club’s history. He took all the blame for the disastrous collapse which took us to the brink of oblivion, but the damage was largely done before and afterwards. The overall judgment has to be mixed. If Reeves hadn’t been injured and we had found a way to combat more physical teams away from Turf Moor...or even to hold on to 1-0 leads away from home ...we would have gone up. The great exception to the away day blues was the 4-1 thumping of Wimbledon (promoted that season) at Plough Lane, which remains one of my favourite away days despite being on the day of the Harrods bomb. Zico Scottie even missed a pen for his hat-trick.
