Your best score on Ken Bruce-Pop Master

Post by beddie » Mon May 25, 2020 1:56 pm

Even with it running today every hour on the half hour I can't beat my score of 21 and that's my total even before today, how have you done, any 39s.

Yep. Done two 39’s in my time, and once even added the three in ten. Tbf I listen every day and have done for years so what looks like an achievement at first glance isn’t really.

For balance I have also scored single figures plenty of times.

I've done a few 39's, but to be fair, the questions have to fall right. I was born in '61, so obviously the 80's are my strongpoint. If a day with a few 80's ish questions come along, and it's 80's for guess the year, I usually do more than ok. Most of the "noughties" stuff I struggle with, and some of the "who recently" ones. Some days can only just get between 12 - 18.

Yep, done a few 39’s, only if the bonus rounds fall right (usually 90’s hits or similar). Had single fingers too though, some of the questions are ridiculously difficult, particular when it’s Champions League

Me too, Eighties a particular favourite, my era.
Usually mid-twenties for me, don't think I've done a 39.

Honestly couldn't name a song in the top ten today.

The Champions League at end of year is very difficult. However, the guy who won it about 4years ago was incredible. He was answering before Ken even got the question out. He was the best I've ever heard. His 10 point final question was unreal. He gave the answer in a second, there were 3 of us working together that day, travelling in a car, and to a man, in unison, we shouted " fu****g hell"!!!.

PB is only 18 but still enjoy it immensely, average about 12 but 3 not unheard of (without Ken's assistance).

I've had some good scores (a lot of luck involved) though I am abject at the three in ten, so will never enter.

Had a few 39s. One day I got 39 on both rounds and the 3 in 10 which was Stone Roses so for me a doddle. I usually get 20s as a minimum, had a few 36s last week. I have tried to get on but no joy to date.

I listen on the podcast on the drive home from work.

Mate, we’re talking about a pop quiz, not how many knights we’ve slain in battle.

Never. Pretty useless after 1990. Totally went away from singles to albums and that is no help at Pop Master.

33 on round 1, just got the Cher debut solo hit wrong. 18 on round 2, American Motown the wrong specialist subject for me. And only 1 of the 3 in 10 today.

27 on round 1. 33 on round 2, 1 I got wrong and the other the contestant guessed before I could think of the answer, which was a 1 in 4 question. No idea which one of the 4 I would have guessed so can't claim points for that. And I got the 3 in 10.

We'll done Herts, both scores in each round for me were embarrassing. I guessed at the 1 in 4 and it was right, Norman I think. I didn't get any of the 3 in 10. Get ringing early tomorrow,

5 phone calls this morning and an email trying to get on. No joy. So I scored 24 on round 2. And a full house 39 on round 1, would have chosen the same specialist subject too. 1 of the 3 in 10

I got through to the qualifiers three times in quick succession last summer, I only ever got 2 out of 3 though and so didn't get a call back. I suspect at the moment its harder to get through with a lot of people being off work. Scored 29 (got 2 for knowing Bobby and not Vinton) and 18 today

Yeah, I reckon you'll really struggle at the moment with so many being at home. Plus, it's obviously never been more popular what with the All Day Popmaster bank holiday just gone.

Best bet is waiting until things are 'back to normal' (could be a while!) to increase your chances.

I keep forgetting to put it on, usually because I'm stuck watching Peppa bloody Pig.

27 on round 1. 36 on round 2 and I got about 10 of the 3 in 10! Couldn't have picked a better option when he said 3 top ten hits by....... Marillion. Kayleigh Lavender Heart of Lothian Garden Party Assassing Market Square Heroes Incommunicado Sugar Mice Warm Wet Circles

Just checked my phone. 22 attempts this morning to get on, not 1 answered....

Have a listen to Radio 2 at 10.30am Monday to Friday.

I got 15 and 18 today. Anything after 1980 and I'm useless.
