Well that’s it then
Dominic Cummings has been receiving threats no doubt from the caring left
and he fled with his family
Proof please? There is a special security team called the Central Unit whose specific job is to support high profile political advisers like Cummings if they are under threat.

If this is true Cummings will have records of these discussions and their advice to leave London. If not its just a bullsh*t excuse cleverly fabricated to allow idiots like you attack the left and blame them for Cummings own actions

Living in London, he probably rarely fills up at a service station, so would probably recall this. I also wonder how many cars in London have a full tank of fuel? I’d guess very few.

More the fool those who worry about any of this because it is way out of our control. It is the media and the left who are controlling the outrage and no matter what happens, it will have no effect on me or my family at all.
Just chill, it won't cause a war ---it's not WMD ---now that was dangerous and did affect me because my lad had to go off to war---and that was all lies to ---ask Doctor Kelly ---oops you can't --- I wonder what happened to him?

Probable that the ‘security’ issues discussed with the constabulary revolved around his arrival at the farm.

I must say that I don’t particularly like the fellow and what he did was a bit odd, to say the least, but the longer this goes on, with baying crowds and hostile neighbours besieging his house, I’m starting to feel a little sorry for him. Both him and his wife weren’t very well and they have a son with medical issues. These things can sometimes cloud your judgement.

At £1 a litre, why wouldn't you have a full tank of fuel once in a while.

I'm sure, as we are all posting some young journo has been tasked to find the petrol stations where (a) DC would have filled up his car in London and (b) where the car would have been filled up for the return trip. The journo will have already got the make/model/engine capacity/fuel type of DC's vehicle. Journo may now be checking with "sources" in credit card processors and maybe cctvs.

Ha, more whataboutery.

Anyway, to put it bluntly the whole country is at the mercy of dumb idiots who think the rules don't apply to them. This is true at any time, but especially so during this pandemic where measures have been put in place to provide safety. This really only works when the people setting the rules are able to enlist the cooperation and obedience of the public who are expected to behave responsibly and follow the rules. Anyone at their tether's edge with social distancing will use Cummings' behaviour as justification for their own disobedience, mainly because they're complete idiots, but idiots with the ability to spread disease nonetheless. The messaging has become a joke. It's unquantifiable, but more people will get killed because of this. So irresponsible of the govt not to place coherent messaging above the usefulness of one man.

Have you watched The A Word, jm? In that programme the parents don't want to discuss their son's health conditions.

I'm happy that we don't get into any private concerns for a young lad, are you?

Doesn't matter what the government say now because lots of idiots have not been taking it serious anyway.
It is all a matter of common sense, particularly if you are in contact with those on the front line and hear of their experiences.

When you have MPs like Stephen Kinnock ignoring the advice, MPs like Tahir Ali ignoring the advice etc., etc. and all within the same time scale as Cummings, then you know that it doesn't matter what the government say because there will always be idiots who flaunt the advice and are devoid of any common sense.
It has nothing to do with whataboutery, as you call it, it has more to do with people accepting responsibility for their own actions, something which very few people do these days because it is always somebody else's fault.

A funeral of a constituent, not even a family member and then went to a reception, packed into a room with 100 people, no distancing or masks - “totally irresponsible stated West Midlands PCC - all these people that haven’t been able to attend funerals of family members yet he thought it was alright for him. I’ve not seen the mobile billboard outside his house playing their testimonies or articles in the Guardian saying how outraged they were.

Compare his treatment to the man that drives to an empty house because he’s worried about the possible consequences for his son.

Noticed that he needed to stop so that his young child could take a toilet break on the round trip to Barnard Castle but that on the 260 mile trip from London to Durham no stop for a toilet break was necessary.

Really?

HI DA, I posted above about The A Word - all 3 series available on iPlayer. I don't think there's any reason why DC should need to speak about his, beyond the content of today's press conference. There's no reasons why any of us on here should be speculating in any way about DC's son.

Thanks for your post that reports that the source is a mis-heard report from a morning radio programme. Easily done to mis-hear something on the radio while you wake in the morning, in my experience. Maybe there'd been a discussion about The A Word (was it on last night?) immediately following the latest on DC media reports?

No I’m calling you a bigot because you’re hatred for Cummings means you cannot see that Ali’s behaviour was on a different level of irresponsibility to Cummings yet that story was over in a day, why wasn’t he sacked by the Labour Party or even reprimanded by Starmer?

Noticed that he needed to stop so that his young child could take a toilet break on the round trip to Barnard Castle but that on the 260 mile trip from London to Durham no stop for a toilet break was necessary.

Really?
He travelled there when the kid was asleep, cuts out the toilet breaks.

A lot of parents have done that with long journeys, makes life so much easier.

No I’m calling you a bigot because you’re hatred for Cummings means you cannot see that Ali’s behaviour was on a different level of irresponsibility to Cummings yet that story was over in a day, why wasn’t he sacked by the Labour Party or even reprimanded by Starmer?
Yes, I can see I clearly hate Cummings...

Ok, so far his explanation is acceptable. I think he has displayed some genuine humility in this press conference.

The point to note as far as I can assess that was not immediately apparent was the threat he felt in his London home, and I can understand his position.

If only the detail had been more transparent in the first place it could have saved a lot of fuss.
Do me a favour and just stop. You’ll only end up embarrassing yourself

Hi Paul, I agree and wasn't suggesting DC should have to talk about his child. What I was questioning is why we have been talking about his son having autism when as far as I am aware no one has claimed he has apart from some nobodys on Twitter spreading rumours.

Just to check though was DC's childs autism discusses as part of the A word series? If so then that changes the position entirely

Firstly I find the media scrum on this totally abhorrent and hypocritical the pictures of them outside his property was disgusting how can they be taken serious if they are doing things like this.

Anyway to Dominic Cummings I have no opinion on him as an individual in fact I had never heard of him before this pandemic occurred but there does seem to be some political/ media dislike of him going on (from things I have read and heard on the radios).

The Government advice was only travel if deemed essential let’s face facts one persons essential is another persons none essential so it is hard to judge from the outside what is and isn’t in reality. I myself have made journeys every week of the lockdown that for me and my Family are essential (at no point was I in close proximity of anyone outside of my Family) but people outside of my Family who don’t know the details would no doubt question and some may even call it a breach of the lockdown but I think that is only because they don’t know the reality of it.

Anyway I don’t know the full details and I think the Barnard Castle thing is a bit strange from what I heard but I am going to take him at his word and not judge. If more information comes out that suggests that he wasn’t acting in the best interests of his family then I may change my mind but I would need more information tag. I currently have.

why should he lose his job rather than being hit with a fine like everyone else ?
Because he was the major noise behind all these, apparently now whimsical, lockdown laws.
Others in lesser positions than him had the good grace to fall on their sword and so should he.

You've shown there an instinct to surrender to defeatism, for what I suspect are partisan reasons, rather than accept that this episode has been a monumental blunder; from the initial breaking of the rules, to the response and handling of the fallout, and the general pi$$ taking - who gets behind the wheel of a 1-2 tonne vehicle and drives 60 miles to test their eyesight? or rather, how low is their opinion of us that they believed people would buy this excuse? There's no doubt that folk have acted senselessly and selfishly, but that's no excuse for the people in charge of the country bungling their own messaging. Cummings, Johnson et al owe people like you a debt of gratitude for your willingness to surrender your self-respect and offer up yourself as a foot soldier in defence of their cause. Don't you have any shame?
