Alcohol

Post by FactualFrank » Tue May 26, 2020 4:47 pm

Has anybody found they've drank a lot less since lockdown, as opposed to more?

I decided to grab 4 cans for this evening, but it's knocking on the door to 3 months since my last beer, as I hadn't had any around 2-3 weeks prior to lockdown. For what good it's done me, I'm not sure.

I haven't had a beer since the Spurs game.

I only drink to be social.

I might be very tipsy off a couple of pints next time on the turf.

Also drinking more. Not loads at once, just most days. A couple of gins at night.

Not because I'm bored or anything - never been busier as I'm WFH and looking after our daughter. Maybe the two facts are linked!

I've definetely drunk less. I enjoy going out socialising and having a few pints. I do have a drink at home, but sitting there drinking on my own just doesn't interest me really.

More, the good weather doesn't help, cold beer at tea time outside sets off the evening.

Me and Mrs VC are.

I think the boredom, sustained good weather and bank holidays have also contributed to a few more bevvies in the back garden than normal.

I'm a bit embarrassed by the number of empty bottles and cans in our recycling bin tbh, think I might leave it nearer our next door neighbours drive when I put it out on collection day so the bin men won't know it's ours ;)

Way more, I did 14 days solid in April where I'd drank, and I've not done that for a very long time if ever.

No doubt the weather and being off work plays a major factor too, I've sank 30 this weekend, many sat in the sun listening to music.

I dont drink usually the night before work, and if I did itd be 1 or 2 maybe with a celebratory meal or a rare occasion.

The last time I put 2 bags of cans and plastic out the collector stuck an AA number on my door, cheeky sod.

Frank, take the opportunity to savour it more instead of just drinking it. Trust me, you’ll appreciate it more and also know that you can drink when you want :)

Never used to drink at home, aside sharing a bottle of red with the Mrs occasionally.

Since lockdown, I started drinking lots more (usually weather assisted) until it was 2-3 beers per night.

Now I usually have a good quality Trappist beer with my evening meal, such as a Chimay, leffe or Kasteel.

I’m also doing more exercise, luckily, so it’s not done that much damage.

I’ve had more than usual. But usually I only drink on football/holiday/socially and never have any in the house. But 1 beer whilst cooking/eating tea is something I’ve been doing. Not usually in though at that time mind. It’s been nice to have so much time to cook. Made 2 stunning homemade pizzas for example tonight. Almost cut meat out of my diet too apart from the odd BLT or odd meat meal.

Shops too. I was saving money the first few weeks, now I’m spending more than I usually do but online.

And before anyone says, I leave a note telling the delivery ladies and gentlemen to leave the parcel on the step.

About the same TBH. On match days if it's an all dayer I might actually be drinking less.

Less: Once a week on a Saturday evening I share a bottle of red with the wife.

The weekend before the supposed lockdown I had a good slurp on the Saturday night and felt like crap all day Sunday. The hangover also made me feel quite anxious. Never been like that before. Maybe it was a combination of the hangover and worrying about what was coming our way? I just don't know, but whatever it was, I sure don't want to feel like that again, so I've near enough knocked it on the head.

For me it's considerably less. I downloaded the Try Dry January app at the start of the year to record my drinking habits. That helps as a motivator to record daily intake. It doesn't stop at the end of Jan, so I'll keep recording what I drink. As a rule, I don't drink during the working week, but will have a drink on Saturday. However unlike years gone by, I need to have a desire or reason to drink, I don't drink out of boredom.

Had a glass of Port on St George's Day a can of Cider on a scorchio day and 3 bottles of San Miguel to celebrate my 65th Birthday last Friday. That's significantly less than a normal pre match warm up. Eating rubbish is my weakness... :(

Definitely drinking more in lockdown. Not every day but around 3 times a week as opposed to the usual once a week. As has been mentioned the great weather hasn't helped as sitting out in the garden on a lovely sunny day having a BBQ , with the knowledge that there is no work tomorrow (furlough), just feels better with a cold beer or 3.
I just tell myself it will be all back to normal when I go back to work. Trying to enjoy the time off after years of hard graft with not many breaks I suppose. Still got over 20 years to work until retirement so sod it.

Well normally these past few weeks, I've been leaping out of bed like a medium-aged gazelle.

Today I felt slightly groggy, so could definitely tell the difference. I don't think I'll bother again until the pubs and football is back.

Drinking down since the lockdown and Bank balance up.

Pre lockdown I spent around £130 a week on booze for the two of us, now around £50.00 and that is includes another, as my daughter joins us most nights for a slurp

I am saving in the region of £1200 a month during lockdown and have not missed my old lifestyle, although the excellent weather has helped.

Mine's up, I blame it on the good weather and more exercise. After an hour's ride on the bike on a sunny day I treat myself to a couple of cold ones. I've got some alco free beers but they don't quite do it for me.

I love all forms of alcohol, especially beer, but never drink at home unless there’s a social gathering. Just doesn’t feel right to me. Can’t wait for that first beer when this is over.

Reckon I've put half a stone on since lock down.
Most definitely down to beer and wine. Most days I'll start just after 11.00, because if I were in France it'd be just after 12.00, which makes it OK.

Probably less but most people I know seem to be drinking more. Don’t really understand it when people say ‘I never have it in the house’ or ‘I never drink at home’. Is there a reason ? Why not ? I know someone who says this but goes to the pub a lot. He now has no choice but to drink at home.

I don’t drink at home, because without boundaries I might drink too much, far too much. Also, it is how my dad treated/treats drinking- a social thing not an every day thing. That’s rubbed off and works for me.

Less for me.

I don't drink at football ( or cricket ) now, and my quiz league has been suspended so I don't have my usual Thursday night out. I don't drink beer at home, so it's nearly three months since I had a pint. I haven't drunk spirits for about forty years, except rum punches during my Caribbean holidays back in the day.

I do enjoy a bottle of claret, though, but I restrict myself to one every fifth night. Tonight's the night!

I’ve not had a drink since lockdown started. The plus side is, I’ve lost 1 and a half stone. Now just under 12 stone. I’m out of the house by 5-30am, doing local area bird watching every day, covering anything from 10,000 to 19,000 steps a day, thanks to the good weather. My bank balance is going up weekly, through savings on fuel, beer and only shopping for essentials.

Being out and about at 6am enjoying the peace and quiet, compared to being out at 6pm, where I was seeing groups of underage kids carrying cans/packs of lager all over Towneley Park, on BH Monday and family gatherings, having picnics.
The following morning I walked back through the Park and the rubbish, including trays, plastic bottles and beer cans were strewn everywhere, including the river. The rubbish didn’t appear to have been left by just teenagers either.
I’ve every sympathy with Park Staff, who have to clean up the mess after them.

Not missed the pubs one bit and I frequented them 3 or 4 times a week

Once the pubs reopen I certainly won't be banging the doors down. I enjoy drinking at home just as much, if not more and I drink less.

My favourite tipple over the last few weeks as been mainly wine and bottle beer. I normally drink cask beer with my favourite being nightjar brewed in Mytholmroyd, proper tackle

Defo drinking more unfortunately. I'm blaming it on this good weather. A few cold beers sat out in the early evening sunshine. Seriously relaxing.

Saved a small fortune since the pubs shut, I have the odd bottle of Merlot at home, same as usual.

Pubs shutting hasn't really bothered me, but I'd rather they were open.
