Gary Lineker tweet
“ Interesting that stats are showing that there’s quite considerably more playing time in behind closed doors football. Shows how much players behaviour is influenced by the crowd.”
Watching second match of the evening and it is clear that players are getting up and getting on with it, much as they do Mon-Fri. This attitude can stay in the game for me.

I think it's quite an interesting and welcome development. I think it's a fair observation to make whatever he earns.

I like him. He’s intelligent and appears to wind up the right people.

I think you might have meant patronising -- which he is surely the personification of!

PATRONISING: treat in a way that is apparently kind or helpful but that betrays a feeling of superiority

It's an interesting observation. Shame we're all discussing the 'name' in the title rather than a curious example of social behaviour but that's the internet.

Let’s be fair, he is superior to most of us when it comes to football (which is what he was tweeting about). How many golden boots have you won?

Re: Gary Lineker tweet
We all know players dive to con the officials and it probably isn't far off the mark to suggest players may dive more at home games because the crowd would be shouting in their favour.
We should be able to see if there is a noticable difference when the PL restarts.

Re: Gary Lineker tweet
Question many might ask is why does he feel he has in what has become the BBC way preach ro us or whoever might listen to this dullard about politics?Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 9:50 pmIn what way is he parsimonious?

Hes a very well paid sports presenter and should stick ro that. If he wants to preach politics he should get on the hustings. Personally I dont like him very much.

Re: Gary Lineker tweet
It’s his personal Twitter account, he can talk about what he likes. Much like, say, Tony Bellew does. Should he stick to boxing talk? You don’t have to follow these people.Stayingup wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 8:46 pmQuestion many might ask is why does he feel he has in what has become the BBC way preach ro us or whoever might listen to this dullard about politics?

It’s a good job you’ve never posted about your political views on here, because that would make you a massive hypocrite.Stayingup wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 8:46 pmQuestion many might ask is why does he feel he has in what has become the BBC way preach ro us or whoever might listen to this dullard about politics?

Re: Gary Lineker tweet
I think he's more promiscuous than parsimonious or patronising. Ask his kids and ex wife.
Mind you it's unusual for someone so rich not to be.
Hey could be worse, he could be Adrian Chiles. Never forget him calling us a small club not deserving of being in the league. Look at us in recent years compared to your beloved baggies Adrian... And wipe that smarmy look of your face.

Re: Gary Lineker tweet
I dont suppose stayingup gets paid millions of pounds of tax payers money per year, by a corporation that stipulates its front line employees remain politically impartial (I dont know this for certain. I know how you like my posts to be 100% factual)
It's kind of like you stating, anyone who has made an unnecessary journey in the past 3 months should be sacked or forced to resign following your outrage on the DC thread.
Hopefully you can clear up what your actual stance is on this if you are going to imply other posters are massive hypocrites.
Incidentally, before the usual suspects jump to the millionaire, ex footballers defence. I have no problem with Lineker being paid millions of pounds of tax payers money. Nor do I care if he takes a side in political debate of any kind.
I just dont think he should be doing both
Re: Gary Lineker tweet
My stance (and I think the BBC’s, too, but like you I’m not certain) is that Lineker, or anyone else, can hold and express whatever views they like in their own time, but generally shouldn’t do so on the platform provided by their employers.Damo wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 4:25 amI dont suppose stayingup gets paid millions of pounds of tax payers money per year, by a corporation that stipulates its front line employees remain politically impartial (I dont know this for certain. If he were to open MOTD with a monologue about the Tories, I’d be criticising him along with you - not for the message itself but for the forum in which he chose to express it.

Re: Gary Lineker tweet
It’s not the diving. It’s them getting up and getting on with it. The trainers are rarely on the pitch, which is good news. Re-starts are much quicker also throw-ins, corners, goal kicks and free kicks.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 5:48 pmWe all know players dive to con the officials and it probably isn't far off the mark to suggest players may dive more at home games because the crowd would be shouting in their favour.
