Quite said how it ended for him really. Sounds like he was frozen out and never really knew why.
Admittedly he'd been making errors here and there the previous season (Hereford away springs to mind) and seemed to me to struggle in the air so it was probably the right decision to try and replace him but the way it was done sounds very harsh. Especially after the title was won.

Always liked Pearce....recall some large gentleman between bites of his pie slagging him off at the CF End.. And it was 0..0 !! I eventually had to to tell him where I was gonna stuff it. Which got a round of applause.

Likeable chap and a solid enough 4th division goalie but wanted and needed better and that's what we got.

He's a bit of a cult legend though, isn't he what with his dancing and his part in the 4th division championship?

He was a decent goalkeeper (for where we were) at times. They'd have field day on here though about his kicking and coming for crosses.

A proper cult figure, thought he was OK and a massive step up from Joe Neenan who couldn’t kick the ball past half way.

A player that every fan of that era would have loved. Couldn't imagine anyone having any vitriol for him. Decent enough for a few years. However, that 91/92 season, probably needed better. Tried several times, with Marriott and Walker especially standing out. Main thing is that Pearce came in post Orient, cheap, did a job and endeared himself. Top bloke.

Ended up with a shiner off George Oghani didn't he?

I remember him doing a great dance in front of the fans at an away game at Bradford once.
Like others have said, OK for us at the time and yes, a great cult hero.

Shocking. Roger Eli's book is a good read on Mullens era. Pearce was and is a lovely guy.

Not read the Eli book but I don't think he was treated very well either - but him and Pearce were just two

We've been spoilt by our recent keepers,Pearce was decent enough at that level,but it was best concerned for all he moved on when he did

Another terrace cult hero back in the early 90’s for those dancing skills!

My dad taught his son at school in Blackburn. Said he was a really nice bloke. One parents evening he couldn’t resist but ask him about that performance at Bradford in the Sherpa Van or whatever it was called then.

He still lives in the area and plays golf at Towneley. Nice bloke.

You could just tell he was a nice guy even without having met him.

And if I recall it was his failed attempt to catch the ball at the Baseball ground that contributed to the "Jimmy Mullens Claret and Blue army" that followed.

Who knows, if he'd caught the ball that day then we could have been deprived of one of the best memories of following the Clarets

I remember a midweek game at Bradford possibly the Sherpa Van when he was absolutely phenomenal. He stopped everything including a penalty. Maybe the best goalkeeping performance I've ever seen. He got marked 10 in the Telegraph ratings, first and only player to do so to my knowledge.

Yes that was the one game that stands out to me as his finest. I went to that game and we got battered and think we won 1-0 with a Futcher goal (might be wrong).
Pearce stopped everything but in particular me and my mates always remember him for his style of flicking it over the bar with his hand bent - to this day we mimic it !!
