Horse racing returning soon
Newcastle will be the first British racecourse to host fixtures when racing resumes, pending "official confirmation from the UK Government", on Monday.
Racing in Britain has been suspended since 17 March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) said "the long break is nearly over" and that it was "counting down the hours to the return of racing".
An eight-race fixture is planned for Newcastle's all-weather track.
The BHA has proposed a total of 18 meetings in the first eight days once the season resumes.
Flat racing's first two Classics, the 2,000 Guineas and 1,000 Guineas, are scheduled to be held at Newmarket on 6 and 7 June.
Does this mean the NAP league will make a comeback? Good fun that.

Re: Horse racing returning soon
Lots of noise from scientists that the government is easing the lockdown too soon, before the test and trace system has been proven to be fully effective.
The government may feel that they took enough flak for allowing Cheltenham to go ahead and may not want to risk yet more criticism for allowing an early return of horse racing.
Government leaving the decision late or, as they say in horse racing circles, "it's going down to the wire".
Hope it is given the Green light, it would be good to see English horse racing back on our TV screens.

Re: Horse racing returning soon
Ive been TV watching the French racing for the last fortnight or so. Lost a few quid so hopefully will do better on the returning UK racing.
In France, everybody, including jockeys (excluding horses ) wearing lower-face covering. Its not as odd as the German footy seems without a crowd.
It's better than nothing watching crowd-free racing on TV but Im really missing going to courses in this weather; already missed meets at Newbury, Sandown and Ascot and was booked for Epsom this next Friday for Ladies Day/Oaks Day. Saving a lot of money though.

I was going to the John Smiths meeting at York in July. I assume that's only going to go ahead behind closed doors. I'm really going to miss that day of sunshine, beer, beer, beer, silliness, beer, more silliness, massive hangover.

I went to York racing for the first time last August whilst I was visiting relatives in Burnley. I really liked the set up there with all the al-fresco eating/drinking behind the stands. That Gimcrack stand is a splendid building, great day out we had.
