Beckenbaur watching Bayern Munich

Post by Whitgord » Sat May 30, 2020 5:48 pm

Just noticed Franz Beckenbaur is present in the stands at this evening’s Bayern Munich home game. I have nothing against him personally and know he has been great servant to Bayern and Germany. Nevertheless, why is he allowed to watch the game in the stadium? Just wondering.

He’s big mates with Dominic Cummings.

He was president of the club but that was over a decade ago. Can’t think of any reason why he should be in there.

I thought they were allowed something in the region of 200 people in total in the stadium?
I'd need to check the exact details
Edit: From what I can read it's up to 300 and includes club officials and journalists, but it's a bit vague as to who would come into these categories
I would imagine that Beckenbauer probably still has some "official" capacity, (even if it's an Emeritus one) at Bayern, but I would also imagine that he does some football writing too, so I would think that he falls within the guidelines.

Is it true you will be attending the remaining Burnley fixtures CT?

He took a short drive to see if he eyesight was working and ended up on the outskirts of the Allianz Arena.

He’s probably still got some sort of ambassadorial role at Bayern a la Bobby Charlton at Man Utd.

Have you been in hibernation for the last few weeks? The games are being played behind closed doors. Do you think I’m stupid enough to actually turn up at a ground?

I posted that as being likely earlier, but actually his role is more significant than that.
I checked on their website and since the club became a limited company in 2002 he's been Chairman of the "Advisory" Board, but also he's the Vice President of the Bundesliga so that - I would imagine - would guarantee him an admission pass.

Sorry CT I was under the impression there would be limited fans attending the remaining fixtures and to answer your question yes I've been in hibernation during lockdown and avoided the news, Internet and other forms of social media up until recently as its no t good for me. I've gone back to work last week which is a relief because my mental health was deteriorating. Starting to feel some sense of normality now. Thanks

Can fully understand the mental health problems. I was dropping so started going out walking every day. That stopped when I got frightened at the number of deaths being recorded with diabetes as an underlying condition. Given the number of people who were out, I thought being home was the only safe place so my mental health has deteriorated again. After some persuasion from friends, I got up at 6 this morning and went for a walk. Only did just short of three miles but it got me out. I'll continue doing that for a while and see how I feel but I won't be going out other than very early morning.

On the remaining games - it is behind closed doors. I really hope we don't see limited fans being allowed in, that would be totally unfair.

Not going to be easy watching home games on tv when we would normally be there, even more so for the likes of you Tony, Dave Burnley and others who never miss a game.

It's no different for me than anyone else who wants to go - it's just the same. It won't be easy for any of us who love going to games. I've got Sky, just got BT Sport (we know the Liverpool game is on there) and will get Amazon Prime should we be unlucky and get one of our games on there. I'll just make sure I can watch them on TV. At least I can afford the extra TV packages for now, I've saved a fortune not going to these last five away games.

I’m sure that there are many on this message board who wish you all the very best wishes and thanks for all the attention you’ve taken to keep things running smoothly over the years. Something of a hero, I think. Keep your chin up and keep up with your early morning rambling. UTC
