Lyle Taylor
Reports we are interested in Lyle Taylor from Charlton. Out of contract at the end of the season and now refusing to come back for the remaining games, to avoid an injury scuppering any move.
32 goals in 63 games is a great return, but at 30 wouldn't help to bring down the average age of the squad. Worth a punt if on a free though perhaps?

Re: Lyle Taylor
I''m not averse if he's on a free, but with Barnes, Jay Rod, Vydra and Wood, where would he fit in?
I did spot the headline about him not playing the rest of the campaign, but i assumed it covid related.
It does make you wonder how many others will down tools in the next couple of months, if they have moves lined up.

Re: Lyle Taylor
Will if Vydra leaves then yes as a 4th striker who'd only fill in if we're short, or come on from the bench he'd not be a bad option, and wages shouldn't be excessive if we're looking to trim the salary bill post-covid.

North East claim he's linked to Boro.
Personally, given he doesn't want to play, I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

Re: Lyle Taylor
Given that he will have just ten days of his contract left when the the league restarts, it would make sense that he doesn't want to risk injury.... Especially if a future club has already had a word in his agents ear.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 2:51 pmNorth East claim he's linked to Boro.

Re: Lyle Taylor
But you were ok with Tarkowski doing exactly this when he was trying to push a deal away from Brentford to us?

Re: Lyle Taylor
Different circumstances. Tarks wanted to move nearer to his parents in Oldham, he wasn't frightened of being injured.

Taylor is hardly set for life with his career so far, if he is Contracted until 30th of June, why would he risk potentially 1 last bumper pay day to play a few games for a team he is leaving.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 6:42 pmDifferent circumstances. If he does his ACL in those last few games, his career and millions of pounds go down the drain.
Absolute no brainer not to play, and I wouldn't be surprised if more dont do similar, I certainly wouldn't blame Jeff for doing the same, and he should already be set for life, so no added pressure.

So you saying a player shouldn’t honour his contract thenMACCA wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 6:56 pmTaylor is hardly set for life with his career so far, if he is Contracted until 30th of June, why would he risk potentially 1 last bumper pay day to play a few games for a team he is leaving.

Re: Lyle Taylor
Players should honour their contracts, but from memory Tarks parents deteriorating health, and the interest from Burnley and an opportunity to move closer to them was turned down. It wasn't a case of wait until the end of the season, it was you are not going to Burnley. I would have preferred he'd played, but then we may never have got him.
Injuries are part and parcel of a footballers life, so no I don't think refusing to play for fear of being injured is the same thing. Especially in the position that Charlton are in, with a chance to avoid the drop. Surely he owes the club and fans better than that.

Not sure about this one. I wouldn't want any of our 4 forwards to leave. We're sorted in that position.
Rangers also linked.

Re: Lyle Taylor
Not for me and certainly wouldn’t want Vydra (or any of the other front four) to leave to accommodate. Very happy with our options there!
Saw another link to a Left Back this morning? Can’t we start being linked to right backs/wingers?

Re: Lyle Taylor
Rangers could well be an option, rumours growing here that Morelos is on his way, and someone like Taylor would be a cheap replacement for Gerrard to bring in.

Re: Lyle Taylor
Interesting one this as apparently Taylor told Bowyer that it wasn’t fair to pick him from the club’s point of view as he didn’t want to risk injury prior to his intended departure.
I wonder how many players have been in same boat but have been picked anyway? I can think of Andy Gray at Burnley and maybe also Danny Ings.?

I'd be very surprised if we were interested. Agent talk no doubt - could see Rangers or Boro being a far more likely destination.

I'd keep Vydra long before I signed Taylor

Re: Lyle Taylor
Let's face it if everyone is fit Vydra probably goes back to being 4th choice. With our lack of squad rotation I don't think we can keep 4 good strikers happy. Plus Vydra only has a year left so he'd walk away for nothing next summer if we keep him.

Re: Lyle Taylor
Are Leeds still interested in Vydra? seems to have gone quiet on that front. I didn't realise he only had 12 months on his contract, if he doesn't sign an extension, and why would he given how sparingly he's been used, then we might have to listen to sensible offers in the next window.
We can't afford to keep letting players walk for nowt, we're not that rich.

Lyle Taylor
Another link to him today on sky, stating we are one of 12 (twelve) clubs interested in him. Probably slow news day again and regurgitated nonsense mind you however...
In my opinion not someone we should be in for , not as good as what we already have and is already 30 so no real room for improvement or resale either .

Re: Lyle Taylor
Are we really going to sign anyone who is better than Jay Rod or Wood though? If theres any truth in it I'd say it's because we need someone to replace Vydra as 4th choice.

Re: Lyle Taylor
I’d be interested to know who the supposed 11 other clubs are
And if we are really interested in signing a 30yr old from the Championship then things must be bad (and yes I know that was Jay last year, but we knew he was proven in this league)

Vydra better footballer, and not 30 years old. No thanks!

Re: Lyle Taylor
Saw this guy playing for Wimbledon at Rochdale a couple of years ago, when we had no game
His first touch is decent , but he lacks any real pace .At League level he would be a great addition He would get nowhere near starting for a side challenging in the Championsip
As said above, his agent is doing well

Re: Lyle Taylor
He's 30, spent most of his career struggling with crap teams in Scotland, and I mean crap. A good season doesn't make a good player, we'd be mad to buy someone that age, unproven in a class anywhere near Premier league standard.
I trust SD has far more sense than that, besides he'd be a poor 5th choice.

Re: Lyle Taylor
Rangers and Middlesbrough are 2 that are supposedly interested, the rest who knows, but i can see some Championship clubs taking him as a cheap option. Can't see why Burnley would need his services given our current striker options.

I thought he was heading to the Premier league? Looks like he will just stay a champ player then.
Re: Lyle Taylor
As a general rule, if the player wants to sit out the last quarter of a season of his contract and refund a quarter of a year's wage and the appropriate proportion of his transfer fee and signing on fee, then I could understand it. A pretty rotten thing to do - taking "there's no I in team" so literally that they are happy to let their team down - but it's understandable.MACCA wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 6:56 pmTaylor is hardly set for life with his career so far, if he is Contracted until 30th of June, why would he risk potentially 1 last bumper pay day to play a few games for a team he is leaving.

If they continued to collect their wage throughout lockdown and then refuse to play, that's shameful.
