Not sure what's worse, declaring looking at illegal ways of getting in to grounds for the rest of the season or the self entitlement at feeling should be the only Burnley fan to be allowed to go to them...

He gets some right grief on here  , I’ve obviously seen him loads at the matches but can’t recall having a chat with him. Fair play if he manages to get in (legally of course)

The whole country is being urged to stay away from these games, yet he advertises that he's going to turn up. Should be given a banning order on his own admissions

I think in the circumstances I would respect him much more if he accepted that he wouldn’t be attending and was encouraging no one else to do so. There will come a day when he is too old to get to a game so why worry now.

He needs to get hold of a Reays coach driver blazer and blag his way into the away grounds as the team coach driver. Mind you he would have to smarten up the rest of his attire looking at some of the clobber he wears to away games

I respect his long term dedication but I think he should admit defeat this season. It IS just a game, not life and death.

I think BFC should invite him to all the home games and he should try all ways to attend the away games. Let the legend live on. Don’t be so miserable.

How many subs are we allowed in these 9 games? How many do you think Sean Dyche will use? There's a solution to everything. Get our "superfan" on the team's staff. ;)

And, invite CT to join him.

Are there stewards at games played behind closed doors?

I personally think that he constitutes an exceptional circumstance and as such, if its at all possible for the club to accommodate him somehow, then they should. I know that there will be others who will feel that they too should qualify but as far as I'm aware nobody else comes close.

Fully agree....if possible the club should try and accommodate him. He gets quite a bit of positive press for us with his attendance record and it will be a shame if he loses this. Some of the posts on this thread seen incredibly pompous. Let him in!

What’s the difference between him not missing a game for 46years and somebody younger who hasn’t missed a game in 40years?

There shouldn’t be any exceptions for any general public
So what if he loses his “title”. We’d all like to be at the games but we cant

Is there someone in this category who hasn't missed any kind of match home or away for 40 years? If so then we should publicise it. Ok it's not 46 years, but it's still incredible and I doubt there'll be many in the country supporting any club who can equal it.

There's a difference between "not missed a home game" and "not missed a game". Mr. Burnley may be a nutcase, but what would life be without a few nutcases to brighten the day? (Though from reading his book, I;m not sorry he doesn't sit by me!)

Same rules for everyone.

Unless of course Mr Burnley isn’t sure whether his eye sight is good enough to see a goal in which case he should definitely be allowed to go to find out.

An interesting quirk of this situation is that he could legally hire a helicopter and hover over the stadium. Normally this wouldn’t come up as the flying regulations have a blanket ban on overflying outdoor assemblies of 1,000+ people.

You need a certain number of articles and match reports published in national newspapers online or in paper form to qualify for a Premier League press pass. I looked into when I was working for a magazine in Thailand.

Will directors be permitted?

Who will retrieve balls, when they go into the seating?

What does actually constitute 'behind closed doors?

No paying guests, perhaps, although all ST holders have already paid. Invitation for a reason.

I am with Dave Burnley.

If it's similar to Germany then I would imagine that directors will count as "officials" and be allowed to be part of the 300.
If we're using multi-ball then retrieving the ball from the stands shouldn't be much of an issue.

With respect to what constitutes "behind closed doors", the only guidance I can find is that it says "no member of the general public", so it is probably down to each individual club to determine exactly who is reasonably entitled to be there in a "professional" capacity.
As Claret Tony writes a match report for every game we play and it is posted on an online forum that is widely read, I would have thought that he would have a pretty strong case for being granted a "journalist pass", whereas - unfortunately - Dave Burnley doesn't come into that category.
With regards to ST holders, I found this
A football stadium is not a public place, it is private property usually owned by the club or a company on behalf of the club. The club is therefore within their rights to restrict access to the stadium.

The fact the fans have already paid for the tickets ensures that the club would have to be justified in restricting their access. Where a club has been ordered to play behind closed doors by a national governing body it can be assumed that this decision would be regarded as justified.
And re: refunds:
Often the decision will lie with the club – in the context of club football – or the national governing body – in the context of international football – as to whether the fans will be provided with refunds.

Ok.... Let's all try and get in the first home game, see what happens

Hopefully the police have seen the article and make him sign at a police station on the day of the games, around kick off time.

I cannot believe there are people who actually condone this behaviour.

There maybe one. I don’t know

But think of it this way.
If the games were allowed to be played with a crowd but only if you could prove that you didn’t have the virus, but Dave did have the virus (and am I in no way saying that he does or that I wish him too), would people be pushing his case to get into see the game then?

Yes this is an extreme example by the principal still the same.

Say somehow, he manages to get in the first game, how many will then try to do the same at the next game, and then all clubs fans would try it and before you know it games would be stopped. Would he be OK then?

Games are being played behind closed doors for a reason, and our front line workers don't need the extra work policing outside grounds when nobody should be there.

It could also end up with burnley having to play at neutral venues, iam sure Sean and the players would love that.

I knew him for the period of his first book - I'm even mentioned in it.

Sure he goes beyond what most of us fans would do but it is a matter of degrees. Going up and down the country from London to follow the Clarets is also weird to most people.

The main point with Dave is that he is (or at least he was) an amiable lad that has made what for most is a hobby his whole life. Work, wives and children are adjuncts to this.

I don't think he should be offered any special considerations but we can sit back and admire his perseverance, even if it goes against scientific medical advice.

To make any exceptions would be a massive mistake. Message should be absolutely clear and what better way to enforce your message than to say "even Dave Burnley won't find a way in - don't bother trying"

It will be interesting to see what the media footprint looks like though. That could be the weak link in any enforcement.

Crikey..Grumps is right ! I don't think Dave Burnley's passion for BFC is any greater than mine either but I'd have no problem if the club were to allow him to attend the games. There is some tremendous pomposity on this thread imho...Dave Burnley has changed his name by deed poll, named his daughter Clarette and attended every single game for this long period of time, writing books about his adventures. He regularly features in media coverage in a positive way and makes people more aware of our club........it's a shame if his record is broken. Let the man in I say.

That's totally fair enough, and we've already established that that's your clear position.
I was really making a more general point about who might "qualify" to attend as "media / press whatever", and it would be my view that people like yourself who report on matches and publish them online to a significant following, have a stronger case for attending and reporting than many others who - I have absolutely no doubt - will get a free pass on far more dubious grounds.
i.e. If I'm not at the game I'd much rather read your match report than anyone elses, though I suppose you could write a report based on tv footage, if it's available to you.
(I haven't anywhere - by the way - said that I support what Dave Burnley has said)
