I assumed he was either retired or a knob. It turns out I was right he wasn't retired.

you always have to look at the positives and take a look on the bright side. There will be plenty of work going in lower paid, lower skilled jobs which will now hopefully be filled. I obviously wouldn't get out of bed for that sort of work/pay but someone has to do it to keep the economy going. Again, loads of jobs, get one step ahead and get your CV off now.

It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better isn’t it. I suspect there will be a real difference between people with manageable outgoings and low debts, who will scrape through it, versus people who already had massive outgoings and debts before the crisis hit, who will not.

Agree with a lot of that. Although I was classed as a home worker anyway I always used to go in.
The ironic thing is I actually see and speak to my team way more now than I ever did.

One thing it’s shown is how important it is to live within your means, cut your cloth accordingly and expect the unexpected.

I have been “lucky” enough to have worked all the way through. I work in UV technology, we make UV lamps which have many uses. Water sterilisation and food sterilisation being two of the main attributes. I felt so guilty going in to work on the day after we were all told to stay at home, but now I’m glad we did. We have been so busy and have a full order book. I wish all of you all the best and hope we pull through this with the minimal amount of job losses.

As expected, redundancy confirmed and now on 12 weeks notice (though I don't have to work it)
Not too upset if I'm honest and I'm fortunate enough to be getting a reasonable payout which will keep us going for a few months financially.
Sure something will turn up, I'm pretty flexible so even temporary/part time work will do.

Been furloughed since it was announced. Not heard anything from my employer. I’m a plumber. I expect to go back soon but not sure how long it will last. Got a nasty feeling come August they’ll be redundancies however. My only issue is I’m currently doing a college course to become fully qualified. If I get laid off before getting my ticket then I’m not going to be the number one choice for other companies. I’ve got savings so won’t hit my as hard as it may others but will still be a kick in the teeth. Hopefully it all works out

Gutted pal. However expected these things are, never nice hearing the news.
At least you’re on a decent notice period and have the benefit of a pay-off. Many don’t, and I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine, especially if you’re flexible.
Keep your chin up and hopefully the Clarets can keep all our spirits up over the next few months!

Except there's a significant percentage of the population unable to grasp basic mathematics or logic......see the recent beach scenes
Prepare for much hand-wringing & blame apportioning......

Could be the contrary. As (in the nicest possible way) you would be cheaper than more experienced, and with less in know it’s all’ you might be served better. Good luck.

Very true. Huge blame culture in this country with very few able to take their own responsibility or calculate risks.

Back to work Monday 8am start. Speaking to colleagues that have been back a few weeks theres not enough work by half, not sure what the bosses plans or thoughts are.

Been back this week, called around 50 customers, it’s scary how many companies have started redundancies now. I’m really worried, I sort of expected it but it’s still surprised me!

Second week back at work and I must admit It is messing with my new found hobbies I started during lockdown. I had a nice routine of exercise and exploration that made me feel so relaxed and at one with nature. 9-5 is starting to stress me out again now.

It’s going to be a tough 12-18 months I imagine. But hopefully things ramp up. As with any crisis had to be opportunity and a lot of businesses will come through It and new businesses and even industries created.
The good thing is that with home working now being universally accepted. A lot of people will have a far better balance.
While I like going into the office and going to see customers. And although I have been able to work from home for years, I also like How much it’s accepted now and I’m going to have a far better balance for it.
