What about Chelsea's 9 man bench proposal? - I am hoping it gets kicked into touch

Dyche won't be happy.

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
Surely they should revert a 3 from 5 sibs or even subs ruling, given a need to reduce risks of cross infections and risks of false negatives when testing for Covid-19

Ridiculous advantage to the big clubs with strong deep squads, especially as it looks like home advantage is lost behind closed doors

Besides there are bigger things to worry about. But it could have an adverse affect. How many subs does Dyche make anyway? Very few. Tighter group, with a stable squad has proved priceless for us. Extra chopping and changing wouldnt necesarily help, regardless of fresh legs.

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
9 on the bench and 5 subs allows the big teams to get a huge advantage, both tactically and strategically - they can approach the a match with multiple game plans and change players and approach to suit - even multiple subs to chase a game, then once that has been achieved replacing them to protect the score line - Jose will love it. I am certainly expecting to se subs being subbed in gamescricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 2:09 pmNot necessarily.

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
A question as I haven't seen a game of "amateur" football for decades....how many subs do they have in a normal Sunday morning match?
The last time I was involved in such there was 1 sub who usually came on at half time to give everyone a game. Don't think I would be too happy turning up week ater week to be one of the unused subs at amateur level

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
I think we'll see the differences in how this is applied when we play Man City.

Are they limiting it to three opportunities to make substitutions as was suggested originally?

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
That's a bit better than then I guess.
Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
I think it's four opportunities, as long as one of them is half time. You're only allowed to stop play while the clock is running three times for substitutions; but at half time the clock isn't running.

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
Why 5 subs? Do they think that some of the other eleven will not be fit enough to complete the 90 mins? That's if it is 90 mins.
Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
Will allow us to give some of the youngsters a feel of a first team matchday squad.

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
According to Chris Boden we only have a squad of 20 to select from which means all nine on the bench, two of those being goalkeepers. Add to that 3 outfield players out of contract and it could leave us a little exposed if we get injuries early doors.

We are a team that rarely make tactical subs at all...to have such a rule change mid season is ridiculous.

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
We have 20 players available registered in the Premier League squad (if you only include two goalkeepers in total) but then there is Dwight McNeil to add to that and players such as Ali Koiki, Mace Goodridge who have been on the bench previously.

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
I went through the squad, removed Gibson (because he's not here) and BPF (to keep it down to two goalkeepers) and that left 21 players which is far more than we've had available for a lot of games previously this season. To add to that you've got the under-23 players, some of whom are training now with the first team.

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
If we were to kick off with the same team that played in the last match against Spurs, which was Pope, Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Hendrick, Westwood, Cork, McNeil, Rodriguez, Wood. It would leave us, without dipping into the under-23s to select nine from Hart, Lowton, Long, Pieters, JBG, Lennon, Brownhill, Brady, Vydra and Barnes for the bench.

Might have missed this, but I'm assuming the players that were injured, Jay Rod, Lowton and JBG are all fit and available for selection again?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 3:39 pmIf we were to kick off with the same team that played in the last match against Spurs, which was Pope, Bardsley, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Hendrick, Westwood, Cork, McNeil, Rodriguez, Wood. Opportunity for a few of the youth team to get a taste of the first team experience, even if they don't get on the pitch.

Some of the u23s are training with the firs team but the likes of Dunne, Goodridge, Koiki, Glennon & Benson have all previously been on the bench for Premier League games.

Is there a bonus for being on the bench? Could this cost clubs more money?

I would think there is every chance that our club voted in favour of it - it certainly needed 14 clubs to vote in favour to bring it in.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 4:05 pmA few on here are starting to sound like the Brighton and West Ham owners crying about things not being fair

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
This is a good time to change the time wasting with subs that has slipped back in. Just do it like Rugby - one off one on. That can be controlled by the 4th official easily. No need for play to stop.

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
Not sure why you think that. That sort of injury doesn't always require surgery and it was only when it became clear that it did that he was left out. Now, having had surgery, they are, as Dyche always is, being careful on his return.
They have enough medical and fitness people at the club to come to the correct decision. I'll trust their judgement.

Are the fixtures out?
I’ve seen a list showing our first three games on Monday 8pm, Thurs 6pm and Monday 8pm but not sure if it’s genuine.

Re: 5 subs allowed in remaining games
9 players on a bench built for 7 is going to mean social distancing rules aren't met.
Is Dave Burnley going to be on our bench as one of the extras? Great way to get our lord and saviour who is a better fan and a better person of course then all of us combined into the ground so he can break lockdown and empty stadium laws. I want a staute of the great man outside the ground so we can all bask in his glory when we all return.

Fair enough. But if that’s the case it affects us all equally outside the so called big six.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 2:21 pm9 on the bench and 5 subs allows the big teams to get a huge advantage, both tactically and strategically - they can approach the a match with multiple game plans and change players and approach to suit - even multiple subs to chase a game, then once that has been achieved replacing them to protect the score line - Jose will love it. There’s always something that people say favour the top sides. But it’s never stopped us beating Man Utd. Man City. Chelsea. Spurs. Liverpool. And the rest (Arsenal aside) down the years.
I don’t think it’s a big deal. And even if it is there’s bigger things to worry about than how many subs a team can make.

Exactly. Who knows. It could be the opportunity Koiki and co need.
McNeil and Chapelle both got an opportunity in circumstances we wouldn’t have wanted. Both never looked back.
