When he played at the Turf earlier this season in the cup game he looked a shadow of his former self, think the running has taken it toll. Great signing for us though.

I liked him. Much was made (rightly) about his effort, but there was much more to his game.

Never has a player puzzled me more. I thought he came with a reputation of being a very technical player, but on occasion he seemed anything but even when back in Championship.

I think the sheer effort he put in for the good of the team may have taken its toll when he eventually received the ball, and we never really gave him much license to use his creativity.

He was a technical player, but was used by us (and Hull) before that on the wing. Did a much better job adapting to the role than Hendrick IMO.

Yes he certainly had his moments. The 5 goals he got in the PL were a testament to that. I just thought sometimes when he received the ball he looked quite clumsy, and I was expecting him to more of a Robbie Blake type when it was obvious how good he was technically every time he touched the ball.

Difficult to compare Boyd and Hendrick in their roles though. Both players seem hugely trusted by Dyche but both carry out the role very differently.

Boyd was a great player for us. He'll get a warm reception from me whenever he's back at the Turf.

That city goal was special but also remember a tidy finish away at Brentford, a gudun at Milton Keynes and last day at Charlton too.

The Premier League always seemed to over-stretch him ability-wise but it was great to have him at Burnley.

The white Pele!

George was the first player my partner recognised. It was halfway through her first season when she said she needed to put her glasses on, to see the players. She had not worn them, until then.

When I asked her who she could recognise, up until then.

"Boydy! I can see its him!"

For me, he ran when others were struggling and added motivation, with those long leg, last ditch interceptions, nicking the ball and starting a new move.

Always a Claret.

Fantasy Football legend, let me tell you the tale of Boydinho.

Way back when the transfer window closed after the season has started Boyd starts the season as a 4.5m Hull midfielder, the cheapest price teir for a midfielder.
His starting price is well reflected as he does not make the Hull first team squad for the opening fixtures and the few that picked him as bench fodder sold him causing his price to drop even further to 4.4m
But then Burnley sign him and he starts games, people now looking around for someone to throw on the bench and maybe return 2 points for playing every now and again see the value in a nailed on starting player at 0.1 less than even the cheapest of cheap midfielders.

But here's why he became an FPL legend though, Boyd had an uncanny ability to return a goal or assist on exactly the same game weeks Chelsea striker Diego Costa (one of the most popular & high scoring players of that season) was either rested or suspended. Coming off the bench with points for his grateful owners.
And that is why he became known as Boydinho.

Where we moved to recently-our neighbour is a big Sheff Wed fan and he claims when George Boyd joined them -his legs "had gone". As a result did not have a huge impact. It was time to go when he left us-but you could not knock his contribution to our club. He had a great technique when shooting, and his goal v Man City was struck beautifully

They got three of our players I suspect in the same boat. Wallace, Jones and Boyd. Apparently Steve Fletcher another of our ex players at Wednesday is on big bucks

Boyd was a great servant to us he played in 115 games, 71 of which were in the PL, his winner against City undoubtedly was the highlight of his Clarets career, but it was right we let him go when we did, and he''s hardly pulled up trees in the Champ since his departure.

He'll always receive a warm welcome whenever he returns to the turf, an ultimate pro, on and off the pitch, and one of my nephew's favourites, he even walked out with George when he was a mascot for his birthday present, not a day he'll forget in a hurry.
