Did we play at The Turf today?
Did we play at The Turf today?
In his latest interview on Clarets Player, Dyche mentioned that we were holding a game between the squad today. Manchester United and Chelsea have done the same according to Twitter and played them at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge respectively. Did we do the same or play it at Barnfield?
He did say we were playing another team next week and seemed to allude that this will be at The Turf and used to obviously build up match fitness but also to rehearse the procedures etc for when we play Watford and subsequent home Premier League games.

Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
I know Liverpool had an 11 v 11 training game at Anfield a few days ago.
It's tough to replicate a competitive match environment, but if nothing else it'll build up fitness levels for those involved.
The procedures won't be hugely different for the players will they, unless their undergoing testing etc pre-match, which is imminently possible.

A disappointing performance - we just didn't turn up...
I heard Rovers played a practice match against eleven traffic cones this afternoon..
Scraped a 2-2 draw with a last minute equaliser.

I hope it was the cones that equalised.... feels like a defeat when you concede an equalizer in the last minute...

Man utd played a game at Old Trafford, I was told that it was going to be 1st team v staff (such as security), which did seem odd.

The Donkey chasers lost 7-0 to the Donkey's. They just couldn't catch em.

Wrong opposition. It was a team of ice cream cones. The rovers defence got caught frozen in the first half but managed to draw level in the 99th minute when the visitors had flaked out.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 7:13 pmA disappointing performance - we just didn't turn up...

Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
Would it be our likely starting 11 against the rest?
Pope
Bardsley Tark Mee Taylor
JBG Cork Westwood McNeil
Wood Rodriguez
------------------------------------------------
Vydra Barnes
Brady Brownhill Hendrick Lennon
Pieters Long Dunne Lowton
Hart
It's not the worst 2nd team, 8/11 played international football!

Read somewhere JBG put another sick note in for a couple of weeks , swap with Brownhill if Hendrick is moving on, though I would prefer him too stay as he would be a big miss, in my opinion.

Dyche said some weeks ago that we would train and do match preparations on the Turf to get us used to being in there with no fans.

Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
Lots of bounce games/friendlies yesterday https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52954441
Whether it will be of any benefit when the restart happens who knows, i still think the players will find it surreal playing in front of empty stadiums.
The more likely benefit for us is match fitness, and getting our framework in order.
And Brownhill getting a taste of the 1st team environment can't do him any harm.

Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
When the home games restart will there be ball boys/girls etc.? Thinking if the ball goes into the stands it could take a while to retrieve otherwise.

Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
There would have to be surely, otherwise it's going to become farcical, one potential solution to this problem is the referee stopping the clock when the ball leaves the field of play, as occurs in other sports.
But yes i'd imagine there will be ball boys/girls when we resume, the risk will be minimal as they'll be outdoors, and they'll have minimal contact with the players/officials.

Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
Them were the days when we had to wait an eternity for a ball boy to climb the steps to retrieve a ball hoofed into the far corner of the empty Cricket Field Stand. In fact, some of those games in Division 4 felt like they were played behind closed doors.
Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
Bump.
Any inside knowledge on who we are playing tomorrow? A local team such as Preston? Is Barton bringing Fleetwood over?

Fleetwood are in the Play Offs.
Not sure how far they are along with testing though so it might be a Championship side.

Nothing been said who. We've played a couple with one more tomorrow. I would think Blackburn, Preston & Fleetwood are likely candidates.

Scott Sinclair for them. Didn’t realise he was at Preston, forgotten all about him to be honest.

Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
Won't do Vydra's confidence any harm netting, even if it was a bounce game, he was one of our players who probably didn't want the extended break.
Sinclair joined from Celtic in Jan, how can you forget about him with his Corrie connections, could have played a part in their thinking moving back to the north of England, much easier for Helen to commute to Manchester if she ever decides to return to the cobbles.

Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
Thank God for that well done mods ! It would never have ended . Too much passion on both sides. A seperate political threads board would be great but don't expect the mods to have to police it on a football board.
Let's all move forwards and keep it about the footy. I don't post much unless I'm riled but would be happy reading a peaceful messageboard without it getting under the skin.
UTC!

Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
Didn’t know that, thanks. Must start against City?
Do you know who else played up front with him? Assume JRod? Wood & Barnes get any time?
Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
If Barnes and Wood are indeed doubtful then Vydra is doing himself a huge favour here. Only friendly games but, coupled with his breakthrough before lockdown, I can see that he's earning the trust of his manager.
He's a different type to our other forwards and that can only be a good thing.

Although, if everyone is fit, he’s not likely to start games but you would think we’d be more likely to use him as a substitute in games now.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 4:23 pmIf Barnes and Wood are indeed doubtful then Vydra is doing himself a huge favour here. From what we’ve read both Barnes & Wood are unlikely too be featuring so you would assume he’ll get some football in the next few weeks.

Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
We play it on the deck more when JR and Vyd's are up front, and this makes us a more attractive side to watch, Barnes and Wood are still our 2 first choices when fit, but it's great that we've got ready made replacements, if one or both are sidelined.
If Barnes is still carrying a knock there's no point risking him again this season, it would be a lift if Woody made a return though, he's got his faults, but he's not our top marksman for no reason.

I read 7-0 somewhere also ,probably the sunFunkydrummer wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 3:27 pmYou're absolutely right, I've just checked. I'm sure I read 7-0 the other day!!!!
Unless it was wishful thinking.
Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
Not sure about that. I'd like to think Jay Rod has done enough to elevate himself above Barnes in the pecking order.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 4:32 pmWe play it on the deck more when JR and Vyd's are up front, and this makes us a more attractive side to watch, Barnes and Wood are still our 2 first choices when fit, but it's great that we've got ready made replacements, if one or both are sidelined.

Re: Did we play at The Turf today?
Possibly if he maintains his form, if he's fit Wood has to be the 1st choice pick, his scoring record is too good for him to be left out.
But the 2nd spot is arguably up for grabs, Ash started the season on fire, but even prior to his niggle he didn't carry the same threat of his early season.
It's not a bad choice to have, i'd rather have options than be relying on both our frontmen staying fit all campaign.
And don't forget there's now 5 subs allowed. so to have potential gamechangers coming off the bench isn't to be sniffed at.
