Artificial Crowd Noise
Just watched a Bundesliga match On BT where they added imaginary crowd noise. Apparently it was taken from the previous match between the two teams and was mixed with live sound from the managers etc. They even seemed to have different sounds to include such as “away team scoring” or “home team near miss”. I believe we will have something similar from both Sky and BT with the option of switching it on or off. Personally I thought it was great and made the viewing experience a lot more normal.
Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
I won’t be having it on. As soon as the tv companies decide they can do without crowds we’ll be even less of a consideration than we are now.

I'm prepared to send the club an audio recording of me singing in the bath if it would help.

It needs it to be honest.
Have to be loud to drown out Dyche though.

The crowd noise on the Aussie rugby league is brilliant, they have got it off to a tee.

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
Terrible idea imo. I don’t need to kid myself there are fans there or about the atmosphere.
Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
The Bundesliga matches I've watched with fake crowd noise are a far better experience than the matches I've watched without. We all know these are unique circumstances and there's no incentive for broadcasters to do away with crowds, so that shouldn't be a concern. Pumping crowd noise into the broadcast wouldn't be the greatest sin ever committed in football. It's inauthentic in a sense, but I'm not a snob and I'd rather have an inauthentic atmosphere than none at all. It sounds like a training match without it. You forget you're watching proper league football. I say this as someone who was cynical about the idea when it was first floated, but having heard it I hope they go with it.

I thought I'd be dead against this, but I've just watched highlights of the Dortmund game on YouTube and my god what a world of difference it made. I am totally socked by how normal it felt.

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
I havent heard any artificial noises yet, but although the german games Ive seen have been good to watch, it is a bit like sunday league without the crowd, I think I will prefer the fake crowd sound. Its all psychology, but seems a good idea.

If you’ve seen it, you’ll agree it’s much better. I’m all for it, will be strange listening back to it though at Burnley I’ll feel like I’m on whizz

it's required to drown out the "language" from the players.conyoviejo wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 8:56 pmThe crowd noise on the Aussie rugby league is brilliant, they have got it off to a tee.
Unfortunately it also drowns out the sound of the game.

"The famous Anfield atmosphere and YNWA", they increase the volume up on it, makes me sick a little!

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
I reckon Sky realise that most of their viewers are neutrals and probably only half-watch a game on the telly, looking up from whatever else they're doing when there's some action.
I think they are worried that without something to attract attention to the game, people will realise they aren't really that interested in Bournemouth v Watford and switch off.

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
I don’t need crowd noise watching junior football and I really enjoy it. If you like watching the game from a technical point of view it’s not needed imo. It’s preferable to have genuine crowds and noise but adding fake noise in isn’t for me. I prefer authenticity but each to their own.

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
Goodness they tried it a few times in Galway for home games which went down like a lead balloon . I mean chanting trying to get 850 fans signing along with it all that happened was people would look at the press box and wonder what the hell was going on .

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
I thought the who idea of artificial crowd noise was a bad move but having seen a German game yesterday I thought it actually improved it.

I was exactly the same tbh. Thought I'd hate it but wasn't too bad. It's good to have the option I suppose, people can try it and if they don't like it just turn it off, simple!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 9:08 amI thought the who idea of artificial crowd noise was a bad move but having seen a German game yesterday I thought it actually improved it.

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
I also thought it helped in an otherwise very sterile atmosphere
Just hope they don't use that god awful rendition of "lancashire homes" (or whatever it is called) when we are at home
That is just cringeworthy

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
There’s a difference between pumping noise into a stadium and having a background track on the tv coverage. I haven’t seen any of the German football, but I would guess that the background hum of an audience would be better than sterile silence mixed with the reverberated shouts of players.
Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
Comparing watching games/clubs/leagues that you have absolutely no interest in and only watching out of pure boredom to watching Burnley is silly. Watching us with no crowd will not in anyway alter the occasion. The fans wanting “fake noise” will be the same ones who laugh, whinge and moan at opposing fans for having a drum that actually makes a difference.
I for one thing it’ll be a great watch in a different way as we’ll be able to hear our players talk/shout and just listen to how much the communicate with each other.

I saw this thread and was going to comment how much better it actually makes the viewing experience. I can see several people have beaten me to it!
I thought it was a laughable idea at first but give it a try.

Can't see a problem with dubbed crowd noise as long as there's an option to turn it off.

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
It's going to be optional on Sky. On the German football I don't think it is.
I think mine will be switched off for the first game - I'm not sure I want to be listening to Blue Moon and Oasis to be honest.

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
Will the artificial noise be added to the broadcast or pumped into the stadium?
I presume it will be on the broadcast and inaudible to the players but several clubs, especially those with new stadiums, pump crowd noise into their grounds.

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
Good to know it's optional. I'll most likely have it turned on for the games that I'm not too bothered about. I'm usually doing something on my laptop and tend to look up at the TV when I hear the crowd roar.

Re: Artificial Crowd Noise
I love watching the darts, but half of what makes it is the crowd watching and the atmosphere. It's the same with football.
Someone mentioned watching the technical aspect of it, but that only applies in games such as snooker. That's a game to be played in near silence, not football. It sounds like a training session otherwise and is difficult to take seriously.
