Re: Whiskey Drinkers
Love the Glenkinchie! Work colleagues bought me a bottle along with some tumblers when I left Edinburgh a few years ago. Struggling to find it down south!Steve1956 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 8:37 pmIf your in Edinburgh...book an afternoon at Glenkinche about 15 miles outside Edinburgh, toured it with my son a couple of years since,I was expecting a big operation it was just a cottage industry, was hoping to go to Islay this summer to visit the peat monsters of Lagavulin & Ardbeg, but the virus put paid to that

Re: Whiskey Drinkers
Ardbeg have a self catering cottage on the distillery grounds that is really good accomodation. The best tour on Islay is probably Bruichladdich. Ardbeg and Lagavulin are both also great fun. Some of the Islay distilleries have different tiers of tour. If you take the upper tier ones then you can get to taste some amazing drams although it is best to block off the rest of the day because it can get messy.Steve1956 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 8:37 pmIf your in Edinburgh...book an afternoon at Glenkinche about 15 miles outside Edinburgh, toured it with my son a couple of years since,I was expecting a big operation it was just a cottage industry, was hoping to go to Islay this summer to visit the peat monsters of Lagavulin & Ardbeg, but the virus put paid to that

Re: Whiskey Drinkers
I like to drink quite a variety of Whiskeys. Don’t mind a bourbon. I do find some of the peaty single malts of the highlands overpowering sometimes.
My favourites are Irish Whiskeys, their grain whiskeys are very nice.
But my favourite by a long margin is Red Breast. It is by Jameson’s. Ima bartender in a bar on oustskirts of Dublin recommended to me and gave me a free measure. It was so smooth! I then bought a round in for me and 3 colleagues. It cost me 100 euros!!! I nearly fell through the floor.
Many years later my work colleagues bought me a bottle of their 20 year old for my 50th. It only comes out on special occasions!!

Re: Whiskey Drinkers
I'd agree with that, a friend treated me to some in a pub in Cobh, so I treated myself to a bottle in Cork Airport on the way home. It didn't last long.1968claret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 10:04 pmI like to drink quite a variety of Whiskeys. Don’t mind a bourbon. Haven't had a JD in ages. Sour Mash tenessee whisky (spelling?). Different to a bourbon in how its filtered I think? Anyroad, Aberlour is one of my faves. Arran too. Loads of lovely suggestions.
I can't touch Bells, Teachers or Grants even if times are hard or offered from a pal. Jeez

Ben Nevis pub, Finniston, Glasgow. What a pub. Gaelic folk musicians, any whiskey you could hope for, what a vibe. However i did not know if I was alive or dead the next morning.

Re: Whiskey Drinkers
Tullamore Dew standard expression is currently £16 at Tesco. Absolute bargain at that price. It is a solid Irish whiskey, very smooth and a little hint of sweetness.

Laphroaig just love that peaty taste and you get a certificate that entitles you to own 1 square foot of Islay.
