League 2 North & South
League 2 North & South
A little rumour it has been discussed as a way of reducing costs and giving the lower leagues a little bit of a
shake up ...
League 2 North : Tranmere, Bolton, Bradford , Salford, Grimsby, Carlisle , Oldham, Scunthorpe,Mansfield,
Morecambe , Barrow, Harrogate, Hartlepool , Chesterfield, Wrexham, Fylde, Chorley, Halifax, Stockport,
Solihull, Notts County, Port Vale and Walsall ...
League 2 South : Southend, Exeter, Cheltenham,Colchester,Crawley, Newport, Cambridge, Orient, Stevenage,
Yoevil, Boreham Wood, Woking, Barnet, Dover, Bromley, Sutton, Torquay,Aldershot,Eastleigh, Dagenham,
Ebbsfleet, Maidenhead, Forest Green and Northampton ..
Prersonally don't see it happening, but it would create a bit of interest .. Not sure if 1 or 2 of the clubs would be able
to compete Chorley were way out of their depth in the National League, Fylde seem to be in crisis plus Sutton with their
artificial pitch ...

Re: League 2 North & South
This has been bouncing around for a while and what has been noticeable is just how many are against it - clubs and most particularly fans - all fan groups that have campaigned against B teams and U23's in the football League Trophy (where record low crowds are the norm - often failing to have a 1000 spectators) are all well organised and dead set against this idea - posted about it a few times in the MMT threadgc14 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 11:22 amA little rumour it has been discussed as a way of reducing costs and giving the lower leagues a little bit of a

Re: League 2 North & South
Sutton would be replaced by the top side form Conference South I would have thought and Chorley are down for relegation anyway

Re: League 2 North & South
I'm assuming the champions from each region get promoted to League 1, but what happens if the relegated teams from League 1 are from same region?
(Know the leagues down the pyramid are like this, but not sure how it works)

Re: League 2 North & South
Some teams from the Midlands switch from North to South or vice versa in the close season.
Basically, see what you've got in the summer across the 2 regions and split them geographically half and half.

Re: League 2 North & South
From what I understand, they look at the Geography of the 44/48 Clubs, and then work out the split ..... Gloucester City, Oxford City and Kettering have played in both National League North & South, from what I remember ...
Re: League 2 North & South
I always thought the getting rid of North and South was wrong when Workington had to travel to Torquay and such like. In the early seventies the Daily Telegraph Thursday supplement run an article about the haves and have not's they followed Oldham's game at Torquay and Spurs trip to Newcastle the costs and logistics were poles apart even in the seventies. One paragraph highlighted the matchday income of a Man United home game and a Workington Town home game Man Utd took more in catering and programme sales than the total income of a Workington game.

If there's 24 clubs left from League 2 and the National League by Christmas they'll be doing well.

Re: League 2 North & South
Regionalisation doesn't always mean less travelling. For example in the above lists Walsall would play Hartlepool and Carlisle but not Northampton which is what 45? minutes away. Colchester to Torquay is about as far away as it could get but would still happen.
Re: League 2 North & South
How much does it save? Clubs which are strapped for cash aren't doing overnight stays anyway. So the saving is that they hire a bus to go 100 miles instead of 300 miles. Saves the cost of a driver, basically.

Re: League 2 North & South
If clubs save money on travelling it will go straight to players or agents.
The standard will be massive from top to bottom in newly formed regional leagues.
