Contract Extension - Out Of Contract Players

Post by RBFC » Fri Jun 12, 2020 2:37 pm

Following Adam Lallana at Liverpool and other players at clubs agreeing to short-term extensions to their contracts that will enable them to complete the remainder of the 2019-20 season with their club I was just wondering if anything has been said about the out of contract players at the turf and if they will be agreeing to short term extensions till the end of the season.

Clubs must agree extensions with their players before June 23 so hopefully these can be sorted out within the next 10 days or the players will leave on the 30th June.

Tbh I wouldn't blame any player for not extending. They're only one bad injury away from having their income completely removed.

Tend to agree with you, jrgbfc. There again for those with no offers at the moment they may well want to be seen playing. There will be scouts at each match - I believe - plus, of course, all clubs watching matches on TV etc.

It involves Hendrick, Bardsley and Lennon at Burnley - absolutely nothing said by the club at all. I would assume they'd have been shouting it from the roof tops if any of them had signed short term deals. Clearly a disagreement here between manager and chairman.

Are the club looking at £100,000+ in wages alone to keep those three for a extra month of the season....its a lot of cash for a club thats safe, maybe our chairman is thinking its not worth it.

Based on the massive reduction in funds the clubs are going to get, I suggest any out of contract players will be looking at massive wage reductions.
I don’t see supporters being allowed to watch football until this time next year.

I have yet to watch a match on tv without fans but I don’t think it’s going to excite me to watch.

You might not see supporters being allowed to watch for a year but there is real encouragement coming to have some fans in Wembley for the FA Cup Final in August.

I've watched a few German games, with and without the fan sound. Just concentrate on the game although I do think it is better with the sound.

Even if the Gov allow social distancing of a metre, that would reduce capacity by more than 50%. I just don’t see how it’s ever going to work to have fans in stadiums again.

I will watch a couple of games.

However I believe the clubs are going to take a big hit n revenues and players are going to have to adjust to lower wages. IMO.

£100,000+, for a month, for all three ? I would have thought each of them is on more than that

Unless we go on a really good run and have a chance of Europe I wouldn't be too concerned if those 3 went at the end of June really. If Hendrick is leaving it doesn't make much sense for him to be playing ahead of Brownhill or JBG anyway.

It’s going to be a lot more than £100k

That only works out at just over £8k each, per week

I wouldn't play any of our out of contract players
Why help other clubs scout them?
We need to play our U23 players to cover any gaps
The results are meaningless.
I for one dont want European football as our finances cant strech to any signings to have a proper go.

I dont think the Chairman thinks the results are meaningless, at nearly £2m per place
