ARTICLE: Two former young Clarets forced to leave their clubs

Sign of things to come, Marc Pugh released before he could play and trigger a new deal and Tommy Wood one of 11 players released because of the current financial situation.

Apart from Lee Dixon and Marc Pugh are there any other players we have released who have played in the top flight. Marc has played in all 4 Divisions in his career. Which manager released him? Summer of 2006 so I guess it would be Cotts, not one to let a good player go.

Pugh was released in 2006 but it was touch and go whether we could offer him anything. Having said that, he played levels below us for the next seven years until Bournemouth won promotion to the Championship in 2013. He's a really good lad and so deserving of the success he's had though and to go and play in the Premier League as he did.

Danny Sonnor did. Strange career that lad.

I thought he looked decent but we released him in 1993. Amazingly, after a few years abroad, he came back and played for Ipswich, Sheff Wed and Birmingham.

Tony Norman? Did he play top flight? Certainly played for Wales and a lot of games for Hull. None for Burnley though

Oh yes Sonner. Was a striker but became successful when he was converted to midfield

Very good comments from both lads.

Total respect for Marc Pugh who battled away to work his way into the PL. I would have thought he will get a deal sorted reasonably easily.

However, it's lads like Tommy Wood who are going to struggle.

He did and also played in the FA Cup final for them. Not sure we didn’t get a fee for him though.
