Villa v Blades
Re: Villa v Blades
So who’s responsible for making sure the technology works? Is it the referees, Premier League officials or the home team?

The aim of the technology is to get things right.
The aim of the prem, is to give Villa a chance!

I thought the goal line tech was checked each game in the warm up?

Re: Villa v Blades
Well that still shot was first posted on here 17 minutes after the goal, up to which point none of the TV replays had shown conclusively that the ball had crossed the line. Clearly there is now evidence, as I said there was on one of my posts above. But in the moments following the goal, and considering the fact that goal line technology has been flawless to date, I think it's understandable why the VAR didn't intervene.
The technology is more accurate than the human eye, unfortunately on this occasion it failed. The VAR had no reason to think that the goal line tech had failed and if they'd stopped the game to fanny around with camera angles they would have come in for a whole load of criticism had the ball not actually crossed the line. Hindsight is fine, but I think it's totally understandable that the on field and off field officials didn't intervene.

It certainly was a relatively unique incident, although I'm surprised there haven't been other goalline melees causing similar interference.

Statement from Hawkeye.

Funny that seeing as the TV cameras weren’t ‘occluded’.

Re: Villa v Blades
Out of all the things they could have mucked up, you'd have thought it wouldn't be the one conclusive piece of technology available, even VAR is still reliant on how the officials interpret each incident on it's merits, but the goal line tech should be the one constant in play.HunterST_BFC wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 8:00 pmI thought the goal line tech was checked each game in the warm up?
I'm just trying to imagine the furore if Man City's winner at the turf last season hadn't been allowed, and it was close, the correct call, but a close call, now if that Aguero effort hadn't stood, Liverpool would have been crowned champions and not City, and it's possible that dodgy decision could affect European placings, and the relegation slots.
The PL could have hardly had a worse return, they've had weeks to prepare for the restart, and it's now been made a complete mockery of.

Whilst I could understand a scenario where too many players obscure too many cameras, I'm not sure how they can claim that a goalpost has. Unless the cameras were positioned incorrectly.

Re: Crowd Noise
It's really decent. It's not going to be the same as the real thing but if you don't pay too much attention you don't know the difference for the most part. Problem for me is I usually like browsing on my phone etc when the football is on and the crowd noise is a good indicator to lift my head in time to see a chance on goal.

Re: Villa v Blades
City are looking a bit tasty now they've found their feet, De Bruyne is running the show as you'd expect, thankfully for Arsenal they've not got their shooting boots on yet.
Already 2 injuries to Arsenal players in the opening 25 minutes, now the 5 sub rule might start making sense.

Xhaka and Mari injures for Arsenal too. Luiz sent off just.
Tonight couldn’t be going much better for us.
Just need injuries to De Bruyne, Sterling, Silva, Mahrez, Jesus, Aguero, etc etc etc now

I'd have preferred City to have had more of a test before playing us to be honest.

Why do so called big clubs keep paying David Luiz large amounts of money to turn up for them, he has always been garbage? I would love to comment on the incidents in the first match, but I decided to watch Downton Abbey instead.

Re: Villa v Blades
When the team he's playing for is on top and he doesnt have to defend too much and can "stroke it about a bit", he looks good. Not a great defender though when his team is under pressure.Vino blanco wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 9:33 pmWhy do so called big clubs keep paying David Luiz large amounts of money to turn up for them, he has always been garbage? Flakier than a chocolate bar, he'd give me kittens if a was an Arsenal fan, i'll bet their fans will be glad to see the back of him.
I'm intrigued which other mugs offer him crazy wages, thinking they've got a free agent bargain.

Lulling Citeh nicely.
They'll think it's easy.
But not know what's hit 'em until its too late when we unleash the Vid on them.

Amazed how good this crowd noise is. Occasionally forgetting the ground is empty!

Re: Villa v Blades
That would have been pretty blatant from the stands, let alone as near as the referee and presumably his assistant were, so I’m not sure I agree with this.
I’m not convinced the referee’s view was entirely obscured and although I’ve not seen his positioning, what about the linesman and his ability to communicate with the referee?
Perhaps more importantly though, the referees performing VAR duties will surely have seen that it should have been a goal - it may not have been a VAR decision - but it would have made perfect sense for the referee to take advice in such an instance.
Failure of one piece of technology is a very poor excuse when there were two officials near by and a secondary system that could have quickly proved conclusively one way or the other.
If rules don’t allow this, that should be looked at to ensure such instances don’t happen again and really, in this day and age the technologies deployed should complement one another and always be able to be viewed by the referee.
