Losing Wood is a blow, his aerial threat might have given City problems at set-pieces.
JBG and Barnes missing is no surprise.

Wood is a big loss. Very short up front without him and Barnes

If Hendrick, Lennon and Bardsley decide not to be available also, we'll be short on numbers

Hart, Bardsley, Gibson, Lennon, Hendrick, Barnes JBG and Wood could all be missing.

That trio missing out is hardly a bombshell, and i'm sure Sean will have been planning for their absence, and we'll adjust accordingly.

Barnes & Wood will come again, but JBG is becoming a walking sicknote, and he's fortunate he's still got another year on his current contract, i'd certainly not be in a rush to offer him an extension, he's just not on the pitch enough to justify the outlay. Pity because when he plays he offers us a genuine goal threat, but he doesn't play enough.

I wonder if the physical challenge of the PL is too much for him, because looking at his stats he was a virtual ever-present at Charlton.

I am more worried about Barnes tbh. his op was Jan 17th and I think he played in a friendly just before lockdown. It is 5 months since that operation and a long time to be out these days unless someone who knows more about players than me can confirm a 6 month lay off after this operation is the norm. Has something gone wrong with the op. I know they sometimes use a mesh which can be problematic for some.

Gudmundsson has never recovered from being badly crocked.

Wood seems a long time in recovery.

Ashley Narnes is the real concern. So many months after an OP.

Hendrick, Lennon etc... club politics.

Not many left!

1 point from safety, rather than Euro bid, at this rate!

Sort it chairman!

He's been getting more and more frustrated for some time but his comments today are damning of what is going on at the club in terms of contracts.

He said: "“And there’s the contract situations, which haven’t been sorted out by the club, the chairman hasn’t finalised those situations, so that’s tricky for us. We’ll wait and see, I advised what I felt was correct 18 months ago, and again six months ago, before all this, and here we are.

"I’m waiting on news from the chairman about what is going to happen. As far as I know, there’s been no offers gone out yet, so it’s all in flux. I made a judgement call 18 months ago on what we were doing. Before lockdown I was quite strong in my view about what we could be doing, so it’s frustrating, but it’s life at Burnley. It’s one of those things, and now we’ve got to take on the challenge of what can be done now.”

He must of had over 10 injuries since he has been with us?

He's certainly not strung a dozen games together this season, he's got 7 PL appearances to his name in 19/20, and he's not featured for the 1st team since the NYD horror show against Villa, he's reported as having a thigh muscle strain, that shouldn't take months to heal surely.

Becoming a bit more frequent the digs at the board although I’m sure they must be in close communication behind the scenes and hopefully this is Dyche trying to put a bit of public pressure on them as he’s always done over the years here.

More and more frequent undoubtedly. That the club have done nothing as yet with the players coming out of contract is incredible in my view and I'm not surprised at his frustration. I hope it is him trying to put some public pressure on them but I fear that the chairman/manager relationship is not as good as it needs to be.

Yes but he has played a much higher percentage of games since he has been here, he’s played more than Gudmundsson has in a season less as well as scoring 10 goals in every season. He has picked up niggles from time to time but they have normally been short term injuries and he is bound to get niggles like that because he is an absolute unit. Gudmundsson just cannot get fit.

Last time he turned out for us was in the FA Cup.v Peterboro at the beginning of January and that only lasted 45 mins. Was out for quite a while prior to that cup tie; I'm sure someone can tell us exactly how long. Lots.of evidence to support the 'myth' that 'he rarely strings a dozen games together' Indeed, it would be interesting to know the last time he did 'string a dozen games together'.

It's a bit of a concern. Inevitable to an extent, just a shame it's public. Our wage bill is about at it's limit and I doubt the contract extensions will have been for reduced deals. To be fair to the Chairman, he's got more to balance than keeping Dyche happy, however vital he is.

Are we talking about extending players contracts just to cover the last few games of this season, or longer term? Personally with nothing to play for I wouldn't be too fussed if they all went at the end of June. Could be a good chance to play a few youngsters without the added pressure of big crowds.

This Covid may prove worse for us than ITV Digital in so far as the latter may have cost us promotion but it did not lead to relegation whereas this epidemic could really do us financially. I imagine the delay in contracts has everything to do with how much we will lose due to Covid and what our liabilities are into the next 12-24 months

The delay in contract offers was pre-Covid - clearly the chairman not supporting the manager's plans

The reality is that the pair of them will be facing the current situation from from completely opposite perspectives.

Dyche's primary concern will be fielding his strongest possible side for the remainder of the season and beyond.

Garlick, however, the last we heard from him I believe was the first week in April when he stated that if the season was curtailed at that point and no new date set for the new season then Burnley Football Club would run out of money by August. Even today, so much uncertainty still prevails.

Little wonder that the relationship between the two has turned "very sour".

Who was the last player we actually signed to a new contract? Only two recently I can remember extending their deals are Westwood and Brady, but they were just the year options that were in their old contracts. So no negotiating required there.

I think the signs are that the wage bill has gone up and up, to a point now that its reached its ceiling and the club are looking to cut back.

If there is one manager needed to guide us through these incredible uncertain times it is Sean Dyche.

Quite frankly I think there's a lot of truth in that last sentence.

In the last set of financial accounts the increase in the Wage bill to £86.6m was a shock to the system of many interested onlookers. The numbers of employees had risen dramatically over the year, some 33% in players, managers and coaches, and 41% in Sales, admin and other ancillary staff.

So, even though we finished 15th in the PL as opposed to 7th the previous season, and the PL merit payments reduced from £27.5m to £11m, the overall Wage bill increased by £5m. Garlick will not have appreciated that increase.

Certainly not wishing to take sides on this potentially explosive situation, but the Chairman and board have a much bigger picture to consider than that of the team manager. The broadcast rebates at the end of July, and an even bigger figure next season, will hit Total Income hard. I understand this will not be Dyche's main consideration, but the overall future health of BFC has to come first and foremost.

Westwood & Brady signed extensions - Wood, Barnes and Taylor signed new deals before Christmas.

If these players were to leave then we would have to replace them so I don't think it is a matter of the wage bill going up and up.

I can see recent comments suggest all is not what it once was but what 'move' would be available in the current climate. Outside the 4/6 elite clubs this must be an equally difficult time for everyone else in the PL - unless you're thinking further afield?

Yeah, it's a tough one and I can't really take sides here. Dyche is undoubtedly frustrated, his hands are tied by us needing to run within our means while the rest of the league has no such constraints, other than the relegation fodder, Norwich, Huddersfield etc.

At the same time, a wage bill of £80-90m is our limit. With the Covid-19 thing, we're beyond our limit right now. Signing Hendrick or Bardsley on big bucks with no re-sale value.. well, ideally we would but I can see Garlick's side of this too.

It’s been mentioned before by others but if Villa got rid of their current manager, I think Dyche would jump at it if offered - even if they were relegated.

IDK but either way this needs sorting with the ooc players ASAP, if they're not willing to sign new deals, then let them go and we can source replacements, if they're not 100% committed to the cause we don't need them, and yes you raise a good point these games are a perfect chance to bed the likes of Brownhill in, and maybe give a youngster or two a chance, if we can unearth a couple of gems, it wouldn't half help us next season.

I'm assuming Barnes' rehab has been disrupted as a result of Covid-19 restrictions

On a positive note we did pretty well without those three before lockdown. City are what Sean might term a 'different animal' but I guess our first-choice defenders would be a bigger miss than our first-choice strikers

Realistically how committed is someone like Hendrick going to be for these last few games anyway? His main concern will be making sure he avoids getting injured. That's not me having a dig at him either, it's just human nature.

In mid May comments appeared in the media that, not only were Crystal Palace interested in attracting Sean Dyche to replace Roy Hodgson, but were planning a triple swoop involving Dyche, McNeil and Tarkowski.

Although Palace are not one of the wealthiest clubs in the PL they do not appear as cash strapped as Burnley right now.
