ARTICLE: Clive Middlemass – February 1996 to March 1996

The latest on the managers - and the first caretaker to feature.

I'll probably leave this now and complete it when we do get a pre-season given the number of games coming up in the next few weeks.

Great work Tony, I’ve really enjoyed reading these over the past few months.

I've been trying to post them on a Monday and Friday which means I have five weeks left. I think it's best to leave them until we get the next break in football.

1. Heath & Waddle
2. Ternent & Cotterill
3. Davis & Coyle
4. Laws & Gray
5. Howe & Pashley

Remember the defeat at Hull. Abject hardly does it justice. Hopeless as a manager,CT but carried on in football for a good number of years after us. Did he have qualities useful to a football club or was it just a case of having contacts and a network of people that provided work for him?

Hard to say but he was involved on the scouting side until 2013. He left Everton when Moyes did.

That performance at Hull was all about the players making sure he didn’t get the job.

I imagine he was a very decent coach and scout, just perhaps not a manager. There are plenty others like that, like Brian Kidd.

I'm not sure he did much coaching to be honest but I knew on that way back from Hull he was no manager. :D

I'd actually forgotten about him and in some ways I wish I hadn't been reminded of him! Nevertheless, another important chapter in this fascinating series.
