Penalties
Penalties
It's official - Burnley have been awarded the fewest penalties in Europe since 2017. An article in today's Burnley Express has all the details. We've had four in 105 games. We've scored them all, unlike Newcastle who've had five and only scored one. No-one likes us we don't care.

Re: Penalties
That's hardly a surprise to anyone, on the plus side we're certainly efficient with the few spot-kicks we are awarded. But then we need to be if we're only getting roughly 1 penalty a season, unlike the bigger teams we can't afford to miss them.

Is there a league table of penalties?

Re: Penalties
It’s a strange one - but in the season before this we won six Premier League penalties, five of which were in away games. We scored all six.
Re: Penalties
It's no wonder we scored them all, no one knows where we're going to put them.

Re: Penalties
Without VAR we’d have had at least a couple less this season. I’d always thought VAR would increase our penalty count.
Re: Penalties
When did we last miss one? Surely not Matt Taylor v Leicester? However, I’m struggling to remember another one.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 1:55 pmIt’s a strange one - but in the season before this we won six Premier League penalties, five of which were in away games. We scored all six.

Re: Penalties
Leicester would probably have never won the league had that penalty gone in. It still rankles with me that Danny Ings didn’t step forward to take it.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 2:39 pmThink it was. 5 years ago. Then Leicester scored straight away.

Re: Penalties
Both Scott Arfield and Matt Taylor missed penalties in that 2014/15 Premier League season but Andre Gray missed one at Reading in the 0-0 draw in the Championship in 2015/16.

Remember that, one of their players scuffed up the spot. I remember I didn’t like the player before hand but can’t think who it was.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 3:26 pmBoth Scott Arfield and Matt Taylor missed penalties in that 2014/15 Premier League season but Andre Gray missed one at Reading in the 0-0 draw in the Championship in 2015/16.

Stephen Hunt rings a bell but I'm not sure.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 6:51 pmRemember that, one of their players scuffed up the spot. I remember I didn’t like the player before hand but can’t think who it was.
I'm not entirely convinced it was actually a penalty though. My memory says it was a dive.

Re: Penalties
That’s the one. It was Hal Robson-Kanu who scuffed up the penalty spot.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 6:51 pmRemember that, one of their players scuffed up the spot. I remember I didn’t like the player before hand but can’t remember who it was.

Re: Penalties
Yeah think it was a dive, I was in the players lounge that game. Wasn’t a classic but a good point looking back

Re: Penalties
Poor game but kept that unbeaten record going. Shocking decision to give us a pen.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 7:00 pmYeah think it was a dive, I was in the players lounge that game. Wasn’t a classic but a good point looking back
