I’ve not bothered watching one game yet! I’ll be watching tomorrow though
Re: The football so far.
I’ve enjoyed it. Of course it’s not the same as we are used to but it miles better than having none.

Nope, loved it, but I have been missing it a lot.
Games very much have an early season feeling, as you might expect, but think that may change a few games in.

I quite often watch games on TV having muted it anyway. So it's not actually a big deal to me there being no crowd

it's been different that's for sure - the most noticeable thing has been the lack of play acting and rolling over, most players are getting back up after a challenge; I hope the refs are paying attention to it

Re: The football so far.
I'd agree with you, it's definitely lacking an edge, but it beats watching repeats of old games, i'd rather have limited football than no football.
And thankfully it means footy chat can begin to appear near the time of this board instead of other topics.
I've only watched the free to air games, as i don't have a pay-tv package, but it's been decent, and there's been some good goals scored.

So all this play acting and conning the ref and cheating....it's all for our benefit?Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 6:45 pmit's been different that's for sure - the most noticeable thing has been the lack of play acting and rolling over, most players are getting back up after a challenge; I hope the refs are paying attention to it
Someone needs to tell 'em we don't really like it....

Not sure why anyone would complain about it - surely better than having no football at all with no clear date for its return.
Hopefully this no fans business is a very temporary measure and we can all enjoy a proper match day again.

Overall, liked it.
I keep forgetting there's no crowd, as whoever is doing the crowd noise on Sky is doing a decent job.

Re: The football so far.
I’ve not missed a game yet. Not sure how long I’ll keep that up but really good to have some football to watch again.
Re: The football so far.
Am I right in thinking the title could be decided tomorrow evening.
Re: The football so far.
Find myself in a strange position......actually agreeing with Ian Wright. It does seem as if the younger players have come back keener & fitter than the older end........doesn't bode well for the Clarets then!

I think this is the way forward. If having no fans in the ground is the sacrifice required to have every game on TV spread across the week then its a sacrifice worth making
For those that like the social aspect of it then once the pubs are open you'll be able to watch it down the pub with them all and with other fans too
Feels like a win-win situation and with the added bonus of the fake crowd noise that gives it an authentic feel I really wish we could keep this format once the pandemic is final over

Don’t be silly DA.
I take your point, but you can’t rob a generation of walking out in which stadium their mum, dad, whoever takes them to for the first time. It’s something that stays with you FOREVER.

We've only watched the first game, that's 90mins of my life I'm not getting back, but we noticed that players were getting up a lot quicker and without all the histrionics.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 6:45 pmit's been different that's for sure - the most noticeable thing has been the lack of play acting and rolling over, most players are getting back up after a challenge; I hope the refs are paying attention to it

As it's you i'll humour you, that's fine for the PL clubs, what about clubs such as Accy Stanley etc who can't survive without gate receipts.
And do you genuinely think Sky et al will pay billions for games in empty stadiums, this is an once in a generation event, hence why special arrangements are being made to have the games free to air, the likes of Amazon, BT and Sky have already made it clear this won't be the case in the long term, which is assume they hope is next season.

Re: The football so far.
City still play decent football.
Villa, Bournemouth, Norwich and West Ham are bobbins.
Wolves looked good.
Jon Moss cannot wait to give a penalty.
Arsenal are gash, there are no words for David Luiz.
Sheffield Utd are on the beach.
Tottenham and Utd was a decent game.
Looking forward to tomorrow.

Re: The football so far.
Lower League football is going to see the bottom fall out of it sooner or later and is a problem that will need solving. What the answer is I dont know but as part of this shake up this could be addressed.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 8:13 pmAs it's you i'll humour you, that's fine for the PL clubs, what about clubs such as Accy Stanley etc who can't survive without gate receipts.

I accept it will not happen but if it did and if when push came to shove there was no other option on offer then the TV companies would still want the rights and would pay up. If a bit of TV money is taken out of the game then good because the wages the players, managers and agents earn is ludicrous and brings with it the threat of football clubs being too over reliant on future money and at risk of collapsing like a house of cards

It’s been nice to see some of the footballers growing their hair a bit longer. Not a fan of these ‘modern’ haircuts.
Re: The football so far.
Best performance : St maximim of Newcastle.
Best game: Northampton v Cheltenham.
Best resylt: wolves win at the playboy mansion.

Re: The football so far.
Only watched 3 games as I’ve got better things to do with my time. Avoided the bore draws. As said above less play acting which I prefer. Saw some good football with the Wolves, Palace and Fulham games. But for Burnley I think apathy has set in a bit and I’m not desperate to watch it.
Re: The football so far.
I'm amazed how many footballers must live with a hairdresser/barber. Most of them seem to be sporting fresh haircuts.

Re: The football so far.
I can see the lower leagues going part-time similar to the Irish, Scottish & Welsh leagues, there's certainly going to be some hard nosed business decisions for many owners over this summer, even before this CV outbreak many were struggling to keep their heads above water, Bury for example, Macclesfield & Southend are just 3 that come to mind instantly, but i'll wager they won't be the last.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 8:31 pmLower League football is going to see the bottom fall out of it sooner or later and is a problem that will need solving. The TV money dropping may not be a bad thing, but won't it just be replaced by billionaire owners pumping their own riches in?
We agree on the crazy wages and other expenditure, and it's this disparity that is driving some fans out of love with the game, of course football isn't just the PL, there is a plethora of amateur/junior games that can be watched for a pittance compared to the cost of season tickets for the average PL team.

Re: The football so far.
got a taste of the no crowd thing watching the german games before our lot kicked off again.
Huge difference without the atmosphere of fans packed in. never had to watch matches at this level like this before with so little noise, but once you adjust after a few minutes it draws you in little by little. some decentish matches, some poor. it'll all be different tomorrow though when the claret tinted specs come out the drawer and the real football begins.

I wouldn't say its been underwhelming, it's pretty much what I expected. I think it'll get more exciting though when the relegation scrap comes into it.

Re: The football so far.
In terms of the results, although we haven't yet played, they make pretty good reading for the Clarets.
Arsenal have lost both their games.
Sheff Utd have only 1 point from their 2 games.
Spurs & Man Utd each dropped 2 points.
And Everton only managed a draw today, and are still below us.
Shame about Palace, Newcastle, Southampton & Wolves winning, but you can't have everything.
And for those nervous nellies who still think we're at risk of relegation, Brighton apart the bottom sides made little or no progress, we're still 12 points clear of the drop zone, and our GD is worth a point.

Totally agree. Cancelled my sky sports package and saved myself a packet. I think a lot of people will follow suit. It's better than absolutely nothing but if there was a local league cricket game on or a grass roots football match on the council pitch, I'd prefer to go along and watch that.
Fans should be charging clubs and Sky to attend, not the other way round. They don't have a product to sell without us.

It’s been alright. To be expected after such a lay off. I’d expect things to pick up in the next week or two, particularly involving teams at the bottom.
