The Chairman
Re: The Chairman
Totally agree bfcjg and also we overstretched assuming we had money for the full ITV Digital contract which was a contract full of holes that left our vessel sinking fast had it not been for Barry Kilby "selling" our assets to fund our debts.
Too many cannot seem to grasp that well over 90% of the Prem League money funds salaries and transfers already, so that there is not a great deal left.
That we have an apparent £50 million treasure chest comes after 5 seasons in this league. Wasn't our last profit on the year just £4 million? If so where the hell does SD or some of the posters on here expect the £££££ to come from?

Re: The Chairman
As Dyche said in the article, it’s not about breaking things, but stretching them.
The stretch for me needs to come in the form of signing players that will offer a good chance of a big resale value, whilst affecting the team now.
There are plenty of examples of players that we could have been in for who would have netted us a good profit, had we pushed the boat out (though some that haven’t achieved expectations too, it must be said).
It’s not easy when there is plenty of competition for these signings with deep pockets and a naturally cautious chairman.
How do we look to get the next Maddison, Alli, Robertson, etc. to Burnley. They were all players we knew about well before a big money move.
It’s not just being prepared to spend on such players, it’s also Dyche getting them in the squad and perhaps not being so concerned with ‘characters’.
That stretch and flexibility needs to come from Dyche and Garlick, whilst seeing our scouting system (home or abroad) starting to deliver some results.

Re: The Chairman
Not sure where we have 'wasted' too much.
Lennon has been needed and played regularly. Cheap to purchase and skilful Defended too.
Gibson had made the England squad and is a decent player. The lack of rotation has denied him appearances. At the time, Tarkowski was being touted to move. We had no cover for Mee.
Are we supposed to sign players who cannot make a seamless transition? We are in the Premier League!
Bardsley and Pieters have been great. Both superb professional footballers. Taylor took his chance and replaced Ward.
Hendrick had been integral. Brady was flying before crocked. JBG similarly.
Vydra showing he can play and score. Wood scores. Barnes scores, JayRod scores. Cork has earned his corn, as has Westwood. Brownhill looks a decent buy. Keepers gave been brilliant - even Hart did his bit.
We are still in the prem!
Kieran Trippier next season and we have cracked it!

There is quite a bit of chatter on here about him. Where has this come from given that he is not OOC until 2022 and would command a big fee as well as salary. He is, 30 in September and cost them £20million.

Re: The Chairman
SD can't have it both ways.
He either wants to retain players on contract, or buy new players. The alternative is making the squad bigger, and that isn't sustainable.
We need new blood, younger, hungrier blood. To get them we need to off load a few players. I'm glad Bards signed, and I'd have kept Hendrick, but the rest just had to go, If we want to refresh the squad.
We haven't got a clue how much the shutdown has bitten into the coffers, or how it will affect the value of players. I cant see it having a bearing on wages.
We have to trust Garlick, to know what is best for the club. He hasn't let us down yet, there's no reason to think he'll let us down now.
It has to be frustrating for SD, but that's life. I doubt he'd be better off at a.n.other club, or be given the time he has enjoyed here.
Fingers crossed they can meet in the middle.

I think they have already met in the middle. Bardsley signed an extension and I don't think he would have done if he thought Dyche was leaving. Not so much because it was Sean, who he knows he can work with, so much as an unknown manager who he might not gel with, coming in.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 12:09 pmSD can't have it both ways.

Key players with new contracts this year, wage bill at top end of allowable v turnover and squad in need of additions between seasons. Dyche has been backed up to now and can see the sense in waiting for the market to evolve in current climate. Cannot understand the need for public spat over bit part players that needed to go. That said am glad solution was found re Bardsley.

Oh and we had Defour! Steven Defour!
I just don't think you understand!
Re: The Chairman
I'd rather we started to stretch our budget by going for the likes of young talent such as Jarred Bowen who have real sell on value, than going for trusted pros on big wages who hardly contribute (Lennon, Hart, Gibson).
We need to keep the core squad trim in terms of size, but a change of direction is needed, as buying potential and selling them for high fees eventually is a good way to stay in this division for longer. Hopefully this is what Dyche is asking for.

As we have discussed in this thread the finances have already been stretched to their limits, we cant afford 50k wages for people to sit on a bench every week. Should have tried to keep Hendrick but that’s about it.Wokingclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 1:08 amhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53200110

He said he would love to play for Burnley again as his last club before retirement but like you say, no chance of getting him before then, playing well for Atletico.
Re: The Chairman
Possibly young talent like Bowen are being persued by numerous clubs (mostly more attractive and wealthy than us), whereas older/trusted pros are less in demand.Ric_C wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 1:07 pmI'd rather we started to stretch our budget by going for the likes of young talent such as Jarred Bowen who have real sell on value, than going for trusted pros on big wages who hardly contribute (Lennon, Hart, Gibson).

It was Joe Harte's fault that SD/MG had a disagreement. Had JH sat of the bench at Maine Road instead of going home, we'd have scored some late goals to equalise and his absence even cost us a couple of goals on Thursday; we just need to get through the weekend and it'll be July, Joe Harte's time at BFC'll be officially over and we'll win every game 5-0 for ever more.
Re: The Chairman
Said on another thread his timing was off by at least 6 months, for a man who prides himself on man management it does seem to be a bit, well, dim to say the least. Like a best man at a wedding who knows his speech isn't the best time to share the groom's proclivities, but does it anyway.

Message to Mr Garlick
Put things into perspective. Realise what a diamond you have in Sean Dyche. Get round a table and if there are any differences, put them to behind you , for the benefit of Burnley Football Club move forward, together with the best manager our grand old club has had for over 50 years please.
Thank you.

Re: Message to Mr Garlick
It has to work both ways.
Dyche has been incredible for us. And still is.
Let’s say we push the boat out. On three or four year contracts for 28 year old Jeff Hendrick and the like. And fans don’t return next season. And sky money plummets.
We have to take a cautious approach now more than ever.
I’m sure they’ll back him. But within sensible reason.
Don’t forget clubs at championship and below will be far worse hit than us financially and there should be lots of bargains in our favoured market.

I think when SD sees that he has the luxury of securing 10 or more of his preferred options for next season ( due to the financial crisis within other not very well run clubs ) he will be only to happy to continue his journey with Burnley

Re: Message to Mr Garlick
I think that without this extreme injury list we have just now, we wouldn't be concercerned too much. I'm happy with the players we've let go. They ALL needed to move on. No problems here with the way MG is running the club.
It appears that we are creating nuisances when, it seems, the club is in a wonderful position,.

Re: Message to Mr Garlick
I took that to mean that because of injuries and OOC players that had left it had changed the dynamic. This wouldn't have been the case if the season hadn't stalled as players would have been in contract until the end of the season and therefore not walked and left us with players for the bench.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 10:37 pmInteresting comments in after match interview with Dyche saying the ‘dynamics of the club had changed in the past 100 days’??
Also as others have said who knows how TV payments etc will be affected next season.
Re: The Chairman
I know the chairman is entitled to remain quiet on the running of our club, but wouldn't it be good if he showed a little empathy towards us, the fans.
Re: The Chairman
He’s referring to the club going into full panic mode ( and we do need to be a bit cautious ) on the back of Coronavirus. Things were obviously agreed before about contracts and targets and then stopped in their tracks leaving everything in limbo with no contingency plan. Whilst we can’t carry a big squad the bench last night was a bit pathetic for a team in the PL and I can’t imagine many managers working with that.

Re: The Chairman
No need whatsoever for us to have 9 good subs, it's the lack of trusted options on the bench that's the issue. By the end of the game we were down to our last 11 senior players.

If that squad was too small, that was the time to address it. But under normal circumstances it would have been enough - the injury crisis and coronavirus happening at the same time, clearly wasn't predicted.
