Made even worse by the fact the players didn't even go over and applaud them after the game. Went straight down the tunnel.

Re: The Positives
Par for the course at City - a lot of fuss about the bench but we haven't done any better in the recent past when the bench was full of first-teamers.
As above at least our training match against 'good' opposition will have removed the cobwebs. And hopefully we won't get Mariner again this season !!!
Even worse we could have "scored" a goal and still come away with nothing as per Sheffield.

Re: The Positives
I think Nick Pope has got off lightly tonight in terms of cricism. Contrary to what some people on here think he is a good goal keeper on his day, and top notch in the air, but he is not top notch England contender The second goal and last goal are evidence of this, and his kicking is poor. Loves to use his feet if hit hard and low when many goalies will try and get their hands behind it

Re: The Positives
We did better than Watford they conceded 8 at the Etihad.
No injuries.
We won't play a side of City's calibre again this season.
Brownhill got his debut under his belt, and the young kid Thompson got a 5 minute cameo.
McNeil and Vydra looked lively, when they got the ball.
We're still 11th

Not a happy man
Burnely manager Sean Dyche has been speaking after the game.
On the plane banner: "I didn’t realise what had gone on at the beginning. Heard noise. Unacceptable. We can only apologise.
"I don’t know what the club can do to send a message out. The powers that be will look at the way we can play our part."
On being without several players whose contracts are expiring: "We have everything we have got. Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood are injured, plus there is Robbie Brady. Club decided to offer contracts very late in the day. Choice is not to be involved.
"The balance to that is that decisions have to be made. I can only advise. The chairman made a different decision.
"The players have asked me a few questions about why certain things have not been done. No lack of focus about the intention. Group as stretched as it has ever been. These games do you good. They remind you how serious these teams are.
"I have been here seven and a half years. Never been an easy ride with finance. It is not my first rodeo. The club has a restricted and stringent look at finance. We have had a healthy return but the chairman makes the decisions. I can only advise.
"Life at Burnley is tough at times. We are in very good shape financially. The decisions have been late. That has affected the situation."

Re: The Positives
I know you are putting a positive spin on this, but tonight was not one of Man City's strongest performances against us.
Had the team played like we did v Man U we would have given them a game. Their goalie did not save a shot or cross and we did not win a corner in 90 minutes

Re: The Positives
Yes but the scousers will have the title wrapped up then, and they'll play their youngsters i hope, City have been a class apart since the restart, and they're clearly eyeing up FA Cup and Champions League success, that's what's motivating them, they want to send David Silva off on a high, and what better way then with a CL medal.
We looked poor, but City can do that with most teams, don't forget this is a team that went to the Bernabeu and won not long ago.
Now if we look as languid against Watford then i'll be worried, but losing 5-0 at the Etihad in our 1st game back i'll not be losing much sleep over.
What concerns me more is what happens beyond this season in terms of transfers, and most importantly the manager's position, they're the bigger questions which need resolving, and they need resolving PDQ.

Vegas-exactly what I was thinking
Re: The Positives
The best positive I can come up with is that the players may have been told to treat it like a pre-season friendly (which they did) so that they didn't get injured, or pick up strains, or suspensions. Because they could have bust a gut to try and win and still probably lost anyway.

Re: The Positives
in all honesty, the biggest positive is that we are so used to losing by 5 at City it's water off a ducks back to the players - they'll be ready for Watford like it didn't even happen

Pope at fault for first two at least. I mean, Foden didn't exactly hit the first one hard and when is Popey going to learn to use his hands instead of his feet to try and save shots?

Dyche a disgrace tonight. A toss up between him and the plane mongs for who was more embarrassing. Pilot should also have his licence removed.

Sean Dyche didn't fly the plane or have anything to do with it.

I think you might have been watching the slow motion replay if you think Foden's shot wasn't hard.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 11:44 pmPope at fault for first two at least. The problem Pope had today was that he was vulnerable to shots hit hard and low from the edge of the six yard box. Which was a "fault" also levelled at Pat Jennings, but in his case jokingly. Pope moved his feet pretty fast in the direction of the ball but wasn't quick enough - to get his hands to a hard low shot from close in would take even longer.

Re: The Positives
Positives - would still have been 5-0 with Wood, Barnes. JBG, Brady, Hendrick, Lennon. Bardsley and Hart - that's par for the course at the Etihad
Shame it was our first game back but there we are - fortunately we'd taken 15 points from the previous 7 - when they click into gear difficult to argue in favour of many better club sides in Europe

Re: The Positives
Agree about Pope. Never seen a Burnley keeper use his feet so much.Never seems to be able to get down for low shots and yes I think half a dozen or more PL keepers would have kept out 1st, 2nd and last goal. Combine that to a disputed penalty and a lack lustre performance and the result is not so bad. Just hope we dont go on a 6-7 match run without winning

Re: The Positives
Positives (quite a few, I thought):
No injuries
No cards
Played well first 20. Not ignoring the massive gulf in class, but could’ve been a different game had we not conceded just before first drinks break.
Thought we sat off second half to maintain energy. Better than going he’ll for leather and still losing.
It wasn’t more - could easily have been.
Brownhill debut. Switching off for the goal not ideal, but he’ll learn from that.
Clearly a lot of negatives too. Plane, Pope and Dyche to name three.

Pep had done his homework on him. Didn't see many high crosses into the area for him to come and catch tonight.

Re: The Positives
The performance and results at this ground were the same yesterday as it was twice last season and almost the same as our home match against this club. They are miles better than us and the rest of the premier league apart from one club this season. Man City probably have the best group of players in the world and the best manager of the last 50 years.
But we will be back next season to have another go.

Not sure the lack of high crosses was anything to do with pope, more the lack of height in city's attack.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 12:03 amI think that you're pretty much on your own saying Pope wasn't at fault and no, Foden's shot wasn't particularly hard, just Pope was slow.

Re: The Positives
The only positive being that we've got City out of the way and in the end they let us off the hook. The score could have been in double figures we were so poor. On the playing front the only player to come out with an ounce of credit for me is Vydra.
