Phil Foden
I've perhaps mentioned him a few too many times over the last 12 months at least, probably more like 2-3 years, but now it seems to be the case when he has to be in England's midfield? He looked a class above our side today.

Re: Phil Foden
utter quality, simple as that
Re: Phil Foden
He is absolutely class.
Will be a more regular starter at City next season with Silva leaving and become one of England's main men too.

Re: Phil Foden
He was the class act from what I saw tonight, a excellent player with a big future ahead of him. Clearly already has the quality to play International Football and I think now the handling of his talent by Pep Guardiola has also been of great benefit to Phil

Re: Phil Foden
The brilliant David Silva was on the pitch last night yet Phil Foden still stood out. That says everything. What a talent.

Re: Phil Foden
Along with Mason Greenwood and Zidane Iqbal, he was the clear standout young player I watched when I was helping with recruitment. Lots of very good players, but these 3 were incredible.

Re: Phil Foden
We keep being told how good he is but then he hardly gets much game time. Last night, given that start, he really did look special.

Re: Phil Foden
You could see how good he was at the U17 world cup 3 years ago. I dont remember an English player as good as that at that age since Joe Cole. But where as his technical ability is maybe similar, I think Foden has developed that bit of subtlety that many of our English players seem to lack. And by that I mean the ability to quietly drift, and get into space almost at will. Guardiola is the perfect manager for him. For England's sake I hope he is managed well, and picks up everything he can from the Silvas and KDB.

Re: Phil Foden
I’m sure he will have learned so much from David Silva and what a loss to English football is his departure at the end of the season.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 9:39 amYou could see how good he was at the U17 world cup 3 years ago. The only player comparable in a similar style at his age is Paul Scholes.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 9:39 amYou could see how good he was at the U17 world cup 3 years ago. In terms of pure ability the only player better was probably Gazza.

Re: Phil Foden
David Silva must be one of the most likeable players to play in the Premier League. Superb player who makes the game look effortless and seems like a genuinely nice guy.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 9:50 amI’m sure he will have learned so much from David Silva and what a loss to English football is his departure at the end of the season.

Re: Phil Foden
One of my favourites who have come to showcase their talents in the premier league.
I could never get tired watching David Silva play football.
Always has a cheeky smile on his face, and you can tell he just loves playing football.

Re: Phil Foden
I can see Foden replacing Silva and starting most games for City. Not a bad replacement, eh.

Re: Phil Foden
Foden has the potential to be the heartbeat of City and England's midfield for the next 10 years, it's true that he hasn't featured much, but then City do have a wealth of riches in the middle of the park, i can see him getting a fair chunk of these remaining PL games, as surely Pep has him lined up as David Silva's long term replacement.
Just checking his stats, and he's actually figured a fair amount for City this season, he's played in about half of their PL fixtures, so i think we can see Pep gradually easing him into the week in week out pressure of PL footy.
If i was Dele Alli i'd be fearing for my England place the way Foden's developing. Alli was the hot young property a couple of years ago, but for various reasons his career his stalled, and he's struggling to regain his form and fitness for both club and country.
Next summer's Euro's could well be Foden's stage, the extra year will allow him to developing physically and become a regular at Man City.

Re: Phil Foden
He's already a £100+ million player with today's silly money. These 2 tournaments next summer and the World Cup, he'll be one of the best players in the world, that I'm sure of.tiger76 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 1:16 pmFoden has the potential to be the heartbeat of City and England's midfield for the next 10 years, it's true that he hasn't featured much, but then City do have a wealth of riches in the middle of the park, i can see him getting a fair chunk of these remaining PL games, as surely Pep has him lined up as David Silva's long term replacement.

Regarding Dele Alli, he comes across as a very very different person to Foden. Foden seems grounded and will be professional throughout his career. Alli comes across as a bit of a prat and isn't professional in his role.

Are you comparing Phil Foden at this age with Deli Alli at this age? Or Deli Alli now?

Phil might find it harder when he's not given acres of space and no one tackles him.

Re: Phil Foden
True but top players make space for themselves, and he's a top player, the frightening aspect is he can surely only improve under Pep's guidance.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 2:02 pmPhil might find it harder when he's not given acres of space and no one tackles him.
He run the game last night in the same way Grealish run the NYD game for Villa, but on both occasions we were poor, and against quality that they possess you have to be at it from minute 1, otherwise they'll tear you apart, and both duly did.

Re: Phil Foden
That's true. Pirlo is a another prime example - always looked like nobody was marking him.

Re: Phil Foden
England should be writing Fodens name on the team sheet, then filling the rest of the names in with a view to getting the best out of him.
Woodleys right tho... he's not Messi. He's not Ronaldo either. Nor is he Pirlo. He's Foden, and i reckon that in two years time, we will be talking about him in the same way we talk about those three. He is quite simply one in a generation good. IMHO of course.

Re: Phil Foden
Foden is like the 16 year old Rooney. He can't do it on his own.
